I don't know if any of you are familiar with the whole "if you give a mouse a cookie" story, but the basis is if you give him a cookie, he'll want milk and if you give him milk, he'll want a straw, etc etc

That's how I feel about this whole fucking home theater thing.

If StonedShroom buys herself Guitar Hero, She'll want an XBox 360 to play the newest installment on($400). If she buys an XBox 360, she'll want good speakers to hear it on ($500). If she buys good speakers, she'll need speaker mounts to hang them on ($80). If she buys speaker mounts, she'll need a receiver to hear them with($250). If she buys a receiver, she'll need a new TV that has all the appropriate RCA/HDMI/etc in and outputs($1100). if she buys a new TV, she'll need a TV stand ($150). If she buys a new TV stand she'll need new DVD/CD holders (price tba).

And I don't know where else it'll fucking go.

All for a TV I never really watch, except to play video games. But it's cool my XBox 360 picks up my laptop on the network and can play all the MP3s on it, which sounds tits on good home theater, with an awesome little visualizer thing going.

I know exactly how you feel, except with me its instruments and guitar stuff.
Foot pedals, chords, programs... gah. And I'm just getting into it (recording) too! I know next to nothing but I want everything!

you know what i think is a great deal and probably a good investment? those little dvd stations you find in places like walmart that rent dvds out for a buck a piece. yeah

The good thing about home theatre equipment is that the technology moves (relatively) slowly, especially with regards to speakers. If you buy a great set of speakers now, it's unlikely any newer technology will make a significant advance.

errrmmm yeah, I went down that road too

I have a fender strat, $500 line 6 spyder amp, a nice acoustic, and OK acoustic, and an ibenaz acoustic/electric.

unfortunately I got to the point where I'm like "OK, I play chords and play most songs if I have a tab, but I need lessons to learn how to really shred and pick up songs by ear".

I still pick up my guitars for about an hour or so everyday... but I'm pretty stagnant in that area, like, I've learned all I can by myself. Enough to pack around an acoustic and play easy songs to impress girls...

Now if I ever get to a point where I have my own house I'm gonna fucking go CRAZY on drum/percussion shit. I've played drums since 6th grade, was in band and the whole nine.

it's hard to have drums when you live in an apartment or you have a roomie and you're living in their house.
