Bay Area Psilocybes vs G. marginata and C. filaris?

I’ve been hunting Bay Area Psilocybes for a while and I’m still confused by the striking similarities that these species share with Galerina marginata and Conocybe filaris. I've never mistakenly picked either species; but I wouldn’t feel comfortable explaining the physical differences to a friend if we were to run across the G’s or C’s in the open.
These Galerina marginata look a lot like fibs/friscosas to me.

The tallest in this bunch of Conocybe filaris doesn’t seem to have any remnants of a veil appearing as a ring.

Aside from the ring around the stem, what other macroscopic features, other than spore print, differentiate G. marginata and C. filaris from Psilocybe cyanescens, fibs and friscosas?

Seems to me like the fibs and immature cyans have more of a bell shaped cap than the gallerinas you showed above. Otherwise I would just stick with the blueing reaction as the telltale sign. If I found the poisonous gallerinas in amongst some cyans, I would probably just find another patch unless I was really confident in my ID'ing.

Yup. Blue bruising and a purple/brown spore print rather than a rusty brown spore print.

my god, at first glance the first two images resemble friscosas. that's scary, I've never seen such similar pictures of the two different species.
experience with friscosas over the years have given me the ability to identify them on the fly. however, seeing this makes me extra cautious in the future. plus friscosas are so unpredictable in size/shape/color they can be tricky on paper(computer screen) but they are all I know in person.
good thread and good thinking to point this out.

The stipe is also a different colour, tending to have a blackish base in age. The gills are also a give away. They are just not dark brown like Psilocybe.
But those distinctions are more subjective and leave more room for error, so the blue bruising and purple/brown spores is a safer set of distinctions.

Quankus, my sentiments exactly; the pictures of the Galerina marginatas scared me too!
CureCat, thanks for pointing out the difference in gill color.
If it has a ring, doesn’t bruise blue, has light-colored gills and produces rusty-brown to orange spores, don’t fuck with it!
