R.I.P. Favorite Gracie fighter....

Quote:
Ryan Gracie (Pictures) was found dead Saturday in a jail cell at the 91st police station, in Vila Leopoldina, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The 33-year-old Gracie, who fought as a mixed martial artist exclusively for the now defunct PRIDE Fighting Championships and was the brother of Renzo Gracie (Pictures), was arrested on Friday for stealing a car and trying to steal a bike. The fighter had been transported to the station after a toxicological examination held in the Medical Legal Institute.
According to the Secretary of Public Security, the body of Gracie was found around 7 a.m. when police were checking the cells of prisoners. Gracie was alone and was found fallen into a corner.
Experts of the Medical Legal Institute could not be reached Saturday to make the necessary examinations and direct the body of the fighter to the institute. According to his lawyer, Rodrigo Souto, the cause of death has not been disclosed by police.
Gracie was 5-2 as a mixed martial artist. After starting 1-2, including a decision loss to Kazushi Sakuraba (Pictures) in December 2000, Gracie went 4-0. His last win -- and fight -- came on Dec. 31, 2004, when he defeated Yoji Anjo by armbar.
Man this is incredibly devistating news...
Ryan Gracie was by far my favorite Gracie to watch. He had SO MUCH talent, he could've been a top 205 contender. But his antics and behavior in the ring just hampered him from ever revealing his true potential to the world.
His intensity was incredibly fun to watch. He seriously had the skill set to take on anyone, ANYONE in the world at his weight class.
But he just was too much of an ass at times, disrespecting, arguing with Pride officials, refusing the commit to conditioning...
I love watching his fight with Shungo Oyama, the grudge match against Vladmir Ishmael, and his saga with Ishikawa.
Gawd what a tragedy of so much potential...

Yeah I just read all this earlier today. That guy must have been tweaked out of his mind to steal a car, crash it, then try to steal a motorcycle and get knocked out by the guy he's robbing.
I'm guessing there's a lethal level of drug usage involved here.

it was just a downwards spiral for him.
he's ran into trouble with the law many times before.
It just sucks, he let the entire notion of "i'm a fighter" get to him.
It just felt like an inevitability.

I guess that's what happens when you can hit somebody 6 times in the head in the time it takes them to fall from your first punch
Man he sure did have the raw potential.

i've seen this pattern too many times
people who think they're fucking God's children because they train in MMA.
There was another case of a former UFC veteran sentenced to jail for life because he fucking choked his Ex's new husband to death with RNC.

Makes me think that some people don't teach the mental parts of fighting to their students or something.
Or some people just aren't mentally capable of not abusing their gifts/the fruits of their labors.

I think that type of mentality applies to MOST people who train in martial arts. They CAN'T WAIT for someone to a pick a fight with them so they can use their expertise.
Which is why alot are dicks who try as hard as possible to pick fights with people.
That's kind of the reason i can't stand people who always brag about training MMA.

I've only ever seen one person like that in any of my training classes and his attitude changed really quick. My coach will have your ass kicked in practice if you went out and picked a fight at a bar or something, shit he had us shark-bait my one buddy for 10 minutes because he drove home after drinking at the coaches house.
We also have a mental conditioning coach who's a really cool motherfucker. It just sounds stupid to me to think that everyone who trains MMA just wants to get tough to beat up some random person. I'd find no pleasure out of beating up some poor slob at a bar who picked a fight with me, I fight with 200 pound athletes every day.
I also find it re-assuring to know that in an emergency situation, I can cripple or disable somebody effectively.

it's good if you have a sensei who keeps your ass in check, that's the way shit should be done.
I definitely support that type of mentality when discipline and moral principle plays in, because these are definitely also strong aspects of the entire purpose of the creation of martial arts.
But man, i've always had to deal with meatheads in the gyms i've trained at, people who'd put stupid chinese caligraphy tattoos on their bodies like they're fucking shogun warriors from ancient times.

Those guys would catch so much shit at my gym it would be hilarious
My coach has been in hundreds of international competitions and he feels as if at every one him and his students represent not only his gym but America. It's not like we don't mess around or have fun in our gym, we do a lot of both, but you are not going to learn for the wrong reasons around here.
That's what the KOTC training center is for, all the retard meatheads around here. They'll take anybody and throw them in a cage as soon as they're willing to get hit in front of a crowd.

I stopped posting a while back. The place is too overflown with idiots.
It used to be a cool place to talk about MMA, back when nobody knew about the sport, it was just a place for people to FIND others to talk about MMA with.
Now it's turned into an idiot campaign of why American UFC rules all things.
