What hugely broad question that is........what do you like?

Personally I recommend anything by Stephen Hawking. If that is too rough for you then try anything from Dean Koontz (similar to, but better than Stephen King)

In the heart of the sea - It is the true story which moby dick was based on. A whale ship has a series of tragic events. The crew must now do what they can to survive. Intense book.

Also if you like sifi check out day of the triffids.
The world is showered with bright green meteors resulting in most of the population losing there eyesite. Maneating plants called triffids see an oportunity to take over the world. The people who still have there eyesight must ban together and battle not only triffids but others tribes of people. This book is very old and I believe out of print. but you should be able to pick up a copy off ebay or half.com

George Orwell's "1984"

These are just some of my recent faves...

YEw Thai Horse by William Deigh,

He also wrote the Burt Reynolds movie and book :Sharkeys's Machine, Ragamuffinns, Chemeleon, and Primal Fear (Richard Gere and Edward Norton).

In this story the lead character is imprisoned in a Central American Jungle Prison called Los Boxes. He has been there for several years in a stone dungeon cell. If he talks he gets his tongue cut out yet the inmate int he next cell tells hi he should eat the yellowish-green mushrooms. So he does.

Read the book. IT is about a us Generals son in Viet-Nam whos helicopter was shot down and he was listed as MIA. Now it is twenty-years later and it turns out that this missing GI's father is a General who is dying and desires to see his sonone more time if the boy is alive. He has some evidence suggesting so.

The man in prisojn was a friend of the generals son at wWest point years before and thus the plot thickens. Frugs are rampant in the book but the Thai Horse is a sculpted statuette from China found in the 13th century ion Cambodia and stolen by Thai Kings in the 14th century. Easy reading, great plot. I almost through the book away uuntil the mushrooms appeared in the second or first chapters. Cannot recall but it is good reading. I am totally surprised that Hollywood has not made this movie yet. Arnold would be great in the film.

mj
