There's a place in mason michigan where they are growing morels indoors. Has anyone in these forums been able to fruit morels?

I think I'm gonna make a trip to this place they call Morel Mountain in Mason, MI. see if I can get any info from them. I'm sure they won't give away any secrets, but I do know they give tours of the facility.

Morel-Growing Rights Are Sold

Published: April 13, 1994

Domino's Pizza Inc. and a partner, the Neogen Corporation, said today that they had sold the first commercial venture to grow morel mushrooms, which sell for as much as $300 a pound.

The Terry Companies of Wayzata, Minn., bought the venture, the Morel Mountain Mushroom Company, for an undisclosed amount.

Terry Farms will receive the right to grow morels, which are gathered in the wild in North America in May and June.

Neogen, based in Lansing, Mich., said Morel Mountain has been successfully growing morels year-round and has been selling them to gourmet food buyers for about two years.

Domino's, the largest pizza company in the world, said it began experimenting with growing morels in 1987, though it has never offered the gourmet mushroom as a pizza topping.

Terry Farms, which is a major grower and supplier of fresh button mushrooms, plans to build a 70,000-square-foot facility for morel production.

Under the deal, Terry Farms will pay royalties on net sales of morel mushrooms to the two former owners for an undisclosed period. They will share the royalties based on their former stakes.

if you rehydrate them in some beef broth and a little wine...simmer for 10 minutes then put in the fridge overnight....they are almost just like fresh ones. get them out the next day and you can make sauces..put them in stuffing inside a bird- some people even bread and fry them rehydrated this way.

it really doesnt matter...whatever suits your recipe. I usually use 2 cups of beef broth and a shot of white wine...theres no rule that says you cant add red on top of that if you feel like it. :faded:

Hopefully I'll have time to do that too. I'm not sure exactly what dates I'll be in Arkansas, but probably early to mid April.

yeah, about 1 in 10 drops a decent print. i think cloning and reanimation of dry is the way to go for getting them from the wild into culture. their an ascomycete and have long thing bags of spores stacked in the pits. i think most morels get picked immature and get too damaged on the trip home to sporulate much.

heres one in the act of sporulating
