Panaeolus Subbalteatus grows in MD in rotting hay and dung. It is in season right now too. You can find pictures at several websites. Erowid.com is a good one. mj's website is another. Good luck and post if you find anything....I am from MD too and I ain't found s#$%!

Has anyone in MD EVER had any luck???? I found some fly agarics (orange-yellow) a few years ago but that is it. Any reports of successful hunting in this area would be a great comfort.

The Forest was burned to a cinder,

Chard stumps could be seen everywhere,

Guess who they arrested for arson,

Thats right it was Tokeythebear.

Hehehehe.

OK i was waling around today in a grassy plot somewhere in MD (not a pasture)and I had the most frustrating experience. I found one, and only one, pan. sub. . At first I thought it was one of those damn pan. foenisecii's but then I realized that the gills were darker, and that the stem looked a little different. I took the little bastard back to my apartment, took a spore print, which was jet black, and pinched the base of the stem to see if any bluing occurred. After a few minutes the base of the stem turned dark bluish. So I got all excited and went back to the place where I found the shroom and came up with nothing. I found a few pan foenisecii and some other white mushrooms. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Alright I am getting pissed. Again I was walking around today, heading home as a matter of fact, and I was walking through the same field as yesterday. I found nothing because the bastard caretakers cut the lawn and chopped all the mushrooms along with it. So I am walking home kinda pissed when I look down in a garden and find another lone subbalteatus. This one was pretty big (2" diameter) but not very tall (2.5"). Just to make sure I took a spore print and it was dark black. I went back to the spot only to find that I had picked the only one. Why does this keep happening to me??????

tokey,
It is supposed to rain this week so be on the lookout after the rains. Ironically I have not found any pan subb's in pastures, only in open grass fields and in a garden right in the middle of the city!!!!! The one I found in the garden was pretty big and I ate it and it was good. mmmmmmm. I just can't seem to find more than one at a time. pretty weird huh?

I to am a lowly non mushroom finding soul in Southern MD. The only time I can ever get a hold of any is if I buy them and you know how sketchy that can be sometimes. I plan on starting to grow them later this month, ordering the spore syringes next week from PF. I have a friend who did some work on a farm this spring that had about 100 head of Black Angus cows. The farmer said the best time to get em was the fall, so hopefully I will have an abundance of them soon, but I want some NOW DAMMIT!
