Possible unknow... (nevermind)
    #7623139 -

Hello, I'm sorry I still don't have the full information for identification. Here's the story: A friend here in Brazil is eating a mushroom for 3 consecutive years and getting strange effects, he describes the effects as:
- High energizing;
- Can't focus on things;
- High body buzz after 8-10 mushrooms like you can't stand up for 4-5 hours.

For now I just have a picture showing some caps. I'm trying to get more information with him. We all know he's crazy for eating an unknown mushroom, but well, he's alive yet.

Here's the picture:

1#

Habitat: Near pine trees. Probably growing from wood or soil. South Brazil.

Can anyone recognize anything on this mushroom? Family or Genus maybe.

For a bigger picture (Looks like the forum resized mine I don't know why):

those don't look active to me...

your friend should probably stop eating them right away~
there's no telling what effect they're having on his health

look like collybia to me, but beyond that, i can't help you.

definitely don't look like actives. possibly placebo effect, or maybe he is getting accute poisoning? body high coul dbe a result of slight poisoning, and the not being able to stand up for 4-5 hours definately sounds off to me. I don't know of any mushrooms that do that.

Aren't there species of mushrooms other than amanita muscaria and the like that contain muscimol and ibotenic acid? Maybe thats the case. Get some one else to ID this mushroom. I'm unsure as to what it is.

I guess it's some kind of poisoning too.

Hm, I would say that your friend is most likely a complete idiot for eating those mushrooms.

They certainly do not appear to be psychoactive, it is rather obvious from the photo.

You need to give us more information to give you an ID. See our Sample ID Request Forms.

GG, I agree he's and idiot, he's not even my real friend, I just said "friend" to not say "guy" or something.
I know the sample ID too, and I said I was waiting for more information, relax

But about that "obvious from the photo", what if someone finds a new specie which doesn't have psilocybin/psilocin/baeocystin/norbaeocystin or Amanitas BUT have a new psychedelic? You see, Brazil doesn't even have mycologists looking for mushrooms and others don't use to come here, new species are just waiting for discovery... right? Like nobody had Salvia divinorum in the North America before discovering that on Mexico...
I believe in the probability of psychoactive mushrooms here still unknown. That's it. Of course not if the mushroom is know to be not active by someone here.

In the photo, the mushroom up top appears like it could have white gills.

I'm sure there is a myriad of undiscovered psychoactives to be found in Brazil, but from what I see in your picture, that is not one of them. I'm not sure why this guy you know is claiming he is tripping off of them. For now, all I can say is that any expert would advise him to discontinue eating them. It just seems downright dangerous to me.

For sure, I said that to the guy :smile2: I don't want anyone dying around.

so are many pine plantation in Brazil , how much is the altitude over there , where there is pine must be and altitude of more that 800 meters to almost 3000 meters for pine´s can grow so there must be the perfect microclimate for psilocybe species if you have hoosganii maybe around there , psilocybe well only cubensis can grow below 800 meters but all the other psilocybe is more likely to be found higher that 800 meters , is humid places next to ravines, in pine plantations , also pine mean mushrooms and in many places is the habitat for psilocybe and have been spread in pine seeds to other places example Australia, new Zealand, Chile,.
all my best i wish you good luck.

Cactus, Hey, pines are available yes. You can see altitudes here:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/18/Brazil_topo.jpg

Those were find in Curitiba, 1000-1500m.

There are pine trees from the North of planet implanted here in the South and Southeast (near São Paulo, Curitiba and downwards, and that's probably why we have Amanita muscaria in the South in the winter and autumn when temperature go near 0C, but generally above, there) and there are other kinds of native conifers too.

I'll try to find some species myself  Those guys who eat unknown shits just don't know what they're looking for heh.

that is the correct habitat for psilocybe and altitude, look in ravines , in in lands slide, under bushes ,do you have Paul statments book, it said in the habitat of psilocybe brasiliensis: gregarious on grassy soil( Axonopus compresus grass) in a forest of auracaria brasiliana and podocarpus.know only from Brazil, near sao paulo,in march at approximately 1500 metes.

you said other natural conifer around is auracaria brasilensis perhaps? , look like your rainy season is really starting all the mushrooms you are showing are fast grower , maybe you are in the right habitat you will have to wait more substantial rain usually here first rain are felt in may , in June rain more continuously and in July i found my first psilocybe for sure , so stick around keep hunting you will gain more knowledge every day , and recognize all the ones in your area futures year´s you are gonna be able to predict the season of many species,
all my best

They are Araucarias, yes. I'll keep looking for species until I have a clue of where and when they use to appear here. P. cubensis are appearing in lots of fields. We noticed that Panaeolus antillarum appears before P. cubensis here and P. cubensis do even appear in the same piece of dung later. Also P. subbalteatus appears first in the dung. When these two disappears from the fields P. cubensis infest. Some people come back to home with full bags of them. It's impressive.

yes cubensis are very common in your area i have many brasilians friend here that told me so , cubensis appear in many field  from sea level almost to more that 2000 meter sometimes and in the lower part subcubensis will take over , you are right  , the evolution of a cow pie is  firt the ascomicetes, some  bird nets sometimes or molds, then  coprinus sp, then paneolus genus the firt week antullarun then other paneolus, subbalteatus, campanulatus, returis , argentinpids, etc, then after a week the copelandiasa appear this ones dominate in some places , then the cubensis wil appear in  diferent dung or in the same as copelandias, then copelandias are gone and cube dominate, when you see the firt cube appearing also the psilocybe from the woood will be appearing , brasilensis, hoosghagenii, and more.
you rainy season is really starting , here you will find lot of information  if you need something just ask..;) i will be happy to help.
all my best
