mushrooms are not entirely sensitive to light. I use EL Wire which is a very low power light with excellent results. I think that it might help if we were talking about plants but I doubt it

actually that is false.

I use three very bright fluorescent F17T8 ballasts that have 6500K (daylight) bulbs. Even bulbs rated "plant & aquarium" are poor choices because their color temperatures are only in the 2700-3000K (Kelvin) range.

The vegetative mycelium is not light sensitive and will grow in bright light to total darkness unfettered in any way, but to induce pinning, to trigger a hypheal knot to actually form the pin, the whiter and the brighter the light the better.

huh...thats contradictory to tons of imfo but to be honest my first grow used flourescents and it was the best. The elwire is water proof as long as you keep the ends dry and easy to install. It also runs on batteries if needed for covert grows. its also heatless, where if I ran 99 rh with a flourescent in the chamber it would screw with the temps when it turned off

as far as the contradictory information, all I can say is consider the source... and then search for "6500K" or "6500 Kelvin" with RogerRabbit as the author, he's answered this question at least a dozen times in the last six months, as well as myself recently.

If you use T8 (electric) ballasts, they don't create more than 2-3(F) worth of heat. I specifically have three F17T8 x 24" ballasts that run F17T8 6500K bulbs. The ballasts were less than $20 USD each and the bulbs, online are only $6 each. A single bulb is rated at 30,000 hours. You'll break it before it burns out, lol.

i couldnt find an 18" bulb rated at 6500-7000 only a "sunlight" one rated at 5000K.

cheap solution is the energy saver compact neons. on the box at walmart it said "6500k" its cheap.. and easy.. screws into a regular socket for any regular bulb. i use one rated at 100 watts.. and it only consumes 25 watts.. amazing

is that a red laser or the green laser. ? I have a 5 miliwatt hene or helium neon laser that I have shined on the side of a mountain miles away and still see the dot its about the size of a small car by the time it gets that far away ... its awesome.. I want to get a green laser I hear they are easier to see from the side than red.. I hope to get a burning laser sometime on ebay .. sometimes they are cheap and you can burn a hole in a razor blade with them .. very cool

obviously off topic but I found plans to build a burning laser using a
DVD burner laser diode ..
I found vids of it popping balloons and lighting matches. I need to find goggles to protect my eyes while playing with it .. very dangerous stuff .. class III laser is nasty stuff.

I got my 6500k light from Harbour Freight. Under $20 -- It's actually a automotive fluorescent droplight. 6500k is stamped at the base of the bulb.
