Priority Brand WBS
    #7605535 - 11/07/07 02:30 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I haven't been on in awhile, as i went from 12 1/2 pint BRF cakes to spending 5 hours a day on the forum using a martha's closet - wbs spawned to coir, monotubs- lcs - G2G transfers - automation - etc etc in about 2 months, all for personal use... LOL EXCESSIVE!!! I realised i needed to find what i liked and stop there, so i decided to take a break for awhile, enjoy my harvests and what not, (I'm sad i never tried rye berries but i can't find them where i live) anyway, because of my vacation from cultivation, i am now starting from beginning with spore prints i had takin, and normally i use Wagoners WBS, but with it being fall/winter, the store i got that from no longer carries it, and i was forced to by a 10 lbs bag for 4 times as much as a 20 lbs bag from safeway (the brand is the generic/safeway brand called priority (same company that made the poisenous cat food and etc) Anyway i'm about 6 days after inoculation with almost no sign of growth (3 jars contammed all from same spore, so i'm blaming that print) I have a Tiny tiny bit of white growth on the bottom of one jar, out of the remaining 15. When i was using wagner brand i remember being alot further along after 6 days, and NOW FINALLY!!! MY QUESTION!!!

Does priority brand wbs have any sort of antifungal do-hickey thats messing up my fungi-shei? (OH EVEN HAD TIME TO THROW IN A TERRIBLE PUN!!!)

I have no experience with that brand, but if you had a contamination of some other fungus I would have to believe that probably indicates the absence of fungicides.

Yes, Trichoderma is fungi. I really doubt there is fungicide in your seed. Although I suppose there is a slim chance you just washed it so well as to render it ineffective, but it is doubtful.

I doubt that, it was all soaked/etc at the same time, prepped the same, the only difference was 3 different spore prints were used.

Most likely its just taking longer than I am used to because i'm not incubating, i'm just leaving them at room temp of 72

6 days and minimal growth at 72 sounds about right, I wouldn't worry too much. It will probably get moving soon.

I think i may have overcooked em. They look darker than i remember normally having them at... At first i attributed it to the different brand (having less millet) but now i'm wondering if i over pc'ed em. They dont give off any sort of burned smell...

Maybe i'll bust out the incubator again, however i think my fish enjoy having thier tank heater back,

I'm thinking about starting another batch, i've got tons more jars and alot more prints, i'll shop around look for some of my familiar brands and do a compare contrast.

Room temp is fine, don't feel obligated to incubate unless you just want to speed things up.

I think the longest I've done seed in the PC is 2-1/2 hours, it was a little on the burnt side but still worked as I recall.

More batches are always good, can't go wrong there! Bird Basics brand is all I've ever used, simply cause it's the cheapest, largest bags I can find.

2 hours is my pc time.

I'm going to do some more, just cause i won't sleep properly wondering if there is just something off with that brand. I think home depot carries some of the brands i like.

FWIW a week later, and my Priority Brand WBS, (from the safeway) has very very minimal growth. perhaps only twice as much as it had before, i'd say around <5% colonization. I think this WBS has the bad-ju ju. Or i somehow seriously fooked it up, which i doubt, as i've grown on wbs many times.

and the alternative brand from the depot (which was 1/4 the cost) is working great.
