Hey guys I just made a Walmart trip in search of some WBS. It is my first time trying this method so im probably gunna do 3-4 jars at first and see how it goes. I was searching for the Pennington brand WBS but they must have been out because all they had was Hartz brand. I ended up with Hartz Cockatiel Food which contains Millet seed, red millet seeds, hulled oats, sunflower seeds, and canary seeds. WILL THIS WORK
Also is polyfil absolutely needed, has anyone done WBS a different way. I usually use breathable first aid kinda tape on BRF jars. Any helpful tips and info would be great. Ive been reading about WBS for about 2 months and using BRF cakes for about a year. I am planning on (if all goes well) transfering to straw or even better H-poo if i can get my hands on it.

you don't need polyfill. i'm sure it will help things colonize faster because it provides contaminant free air exchange but your jars will colonize eventually if just foil lids are used to cover the inoculation point.
remember to shake your jars well post PC so they don't clump.

I would suggest you use TYVEK on wbs/grain lids. Polyfil works, as does micropore surigical tape.
After soaking, steeping rinsing & draining wbs.
1= load jars 2/3rds to 3/4 full. 2= apply tyvek & lid cap (w/hole or holes in cap) 3= add ring & leave 1/4 to 1/2 turn loose 4= add double / triple coffee filter - held down with rubber band 5= PC'ed 60 minutes at 15psi
Allow PC to cool & pressure to equalize, remove jar(s), tighten lid & shake jars well. Store in a clean dry place until use. Use sooner than later.
