Mixing crumbled cakes?
    #7555073 - 10/24/07 01:54 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Heres the deal, I'd like to make a crumbled casing about 4" deep, but I don't have enough fully colonized substrate to do that yet.

What I do have is:
(1) 1lb. Grain mycobag, fully colonized B+
(2) 2lb. partially colonized grainy mycobags B+
(2) 2lb UNcolonized mycobags (same)

What I'd like to do is take one of my uncolonized 2lb. bags which are tried-and-trued awesome bags, and mix them up with the crumbled 1lb. colonized bag about 4" deep, cover with perforated foil, let sit for about a week at room temp to fully colonize then case with my usual MGMC/verm.

Could I mix the fresh substrate with the uncolonized stuff in my casing, or would that be too prone to contams? Would this be considered a Grain-to-Grain transfer? Any tips would be appreciated, except "use the search function" (because I do)

Yes that would bring in contams. I would slice the cakes. You get more surface area if you slice as opposed to crumbling.

That's just my personl opinion.

MPO!

I actually mean to ask would this be considered *spawning*.

What do you mean slicing? My question had to do with whether or not I could use the already colonized sub. to mix up with fresh sub, then case it after it colonizes all together. I wasn't asking how to increase surface area.
Thanks, Bof
