crumbling cakes ques.

O.k. yet another casing question. Right now a foaf has four seperate crumbled 1pt. cakes cased in verm. at various stages of development. One is currently sprouting some good prospects, one is not as far along but far more pins, one has only one little pin that has done nothing, and the lastr one nothing at all. They were all cased 17 days ago. My thought is that maybe the cakes weren't 100% colonized when they were crumbled. They were 100% white on the outside when My friend crumbled them, but the inside was still a little brown. Did he crumble too early? If not I just don't know why this is taking so long. How do you guys guage when it is time to crumble?

Maybe it wasnt fully colonized, and it got a little contamed. Next time let the cakes sit for about another week after the surface looks 100% colonized, to be sure.

Next time try to let the cakes sit for about a week after you have seen full colonization of the cakes.  Sounds like they were birthed early, and using any uncolonized substrate in the casing is just asking for contamination.

did you let the casing layer adequately colonize before you initiated pinning? if not, this could be a problem with a poorly performing casing.
