Humidity

My friend is having problems keeping his humidity up in his grow area. He was using a vicks humidifier like the old style and it worked good. In fact almost to good. It would pray out a fine mist and he even had to have it on a timer because it would get to humid in there. But it has since died on him and so he bought the new style Vicks Humidifier and it sucked. The humidity actually stayed the same. It barely even sprays any mist out. So he took it back and bought the more expensive one and its working better but still not that good. Whats the appropriate humidity range for cakes and how can he get his humidity higher without buying another humidifier?

100% for cakes and if you buy some perlite and put about a half inch in the bottom after properly hydrating it. You will achieve proper humidity no problem. And it's way cheap too.

You can also slice your cakes and case them. Casings only need about 85-87% RH and they fruit better and faster. I just switched to slicing my cakes and it was the best thing I have ever done.
I think in my opinion it's better than crumbling. That's just me. MPO!

His old coolmist worked great. Like I said he had it on a timer because it over humidified the room. Water would be dripping off the plastic.

His grow chamber is about 5' long x 3'wide. Its a metal roll around rack with clear plastic draped over it. its worked great for years but now that his old humidifier quit he cant get it to raise.

Why is my pertilite not working? I put a whole bag in a container and filled it about half way to the top of the pertilite with water and my humidity is not going up at all. WTF?

Thats because you're using the perlite wrong. Rinse the perlite, drain well and then put it in your FC. Perlite submerged in water won't aid humidity.

I am planning on using perlite with a small, single-output air pump. Should I drill all six sides like the RR videos or just leave holes in the top because of the pump like the PMP? Also, how many inches of perlite should be used?
