drinking straw tek w/ casings?

has anyone tried sticking a straw in the middle of there casing when they are first making it? my friend was thinking about puting a layer of perlite(very thin) then holding the straw straight up, putting some more perlite then a crumbled cake, then the casing layer.

would it be safe to drop pure h202 down the straw in the perlite to ward off contams?

A perlite layer below the crumbled cake would only serve as a drainage layer, the fungus would not be able to take much water from the perlite, it would just allow excess water to drain into it. Therefore putting h202 through the straw and into the perlite would probably be harmless, but also somewhat useless. I would try vermiculite instead of perlite, or a layer or vermiculite over the perlite layer, that might work. Try it and let us know!

jorge has two casiings pitted against each other incubating right now. one with a bottom layer of perlite and the other one with verm bottom layer. he is going pooface tommorow so i dont think he will be using a bottom layer any more on any casings.
