Can I Do 192.168.1.1

My mother in law has a router and modem setup that she bought when she signed up for hispeed through at&t. She told me that i can have them if i could do something with them.

Can i poke around inside them, without them being hooked to dsl?

yeah, if that is the correct ip for the router, it should work fine...no need for it to be hooked up to internet to get into the routers settings.

You need to look up the model on the manufacturer's website, and the proper IP. Some routers are 192.168.0.1, and so on.

You may also have to "reset" it back to the default username/password.
