Sheriff notice

So I come home from work Friday afternoon and find this notice sticking in my door it says,"This is to notify you that the county sheriffs office has a legal document that must be hand delivered to you.It is imperative that you immediately contact the deputy sheriff listed below for further informatoin or instructions.Thank you for your cooperation"So I call the number and get an anwsering machine that says leave your name, address, phone#,I did and nobody has called me back yet.My question is,has anybody here ever received something like this,or does anybody know what it could be?I dont think its a warrant or anything like that,all I know is that its freaking me out.Any info would be appreciated.

I've had warrant notices sent in the mails as well as served, most likely it's a
lawsuit of some sort, they're acting as process servers, are you expecting a
divorce, did you renig on payments your your HDTV or something?

I would think that the law would be more sophisticated than to put a note on your door. Like using a mailbox, perhaps.

you might be suprised, it's more economical for them to have you pick up your
lawsuit papers than for them to miss you 3 times trying to serve you at home,
20 years ago Gwinnett started sending notices in the mail that people had warrants
for various shit, lots of people like to get it taken care of without jail. and
it's easier to arrange bond from this side of the bars

man, whatever it is, dont get the paper from the cops. im sure that they are trying to serve you with a legal summons or other document that must be hand delivered by the police.

you see..... if they dont legally serve you the papers, actually have you identify yourself and Physically touch you with the paperwork, before you can be sued or otherwise brought to court.

someone is trying to sue you, or otherwise bring you into public process............. I would recomend dodging it

The DEA doesn't leave a note, they pretend to knock and then kick the door in.

Of course they can.  The legality of the action may be contested in court, but there is no magic fairy dust that prevents a cop from opening a mailbox.

subpoena, eviction notice, restraining order, or other court summons...

that's the only reason i've ever heard of the cops leaving a note on your door..

if they're going to bother delivering a warrant notice, they are going to arrest you, too.  i've only ever seen warrant notices come in the mail.

Thanks for all the feedback people,much appreciated!I think I'm going to try and dodge this shit.I own my own home so they cant evict me,I never had any credit cards or anything like that so thats out the window.Again,thanks everyone.
