Hey McFace, I am talking over thirty years experience and they do not grow in the spring.Psilocybe semilanceata is a root mushroom and the mycelium attaches itself to several varieties of grasses at the roots. and they need a certain amount of time to grow, which usually lasts at lesrt 6-8 months in a field. If there were any in the spring it would be late may and only in well manicured lawns that are treated with constant fertilizers and perpetual lawn care. Just where do you live Mr. McFFace? Sedge grass is a good example and yes they can grow in lawns but Their season is from later June-July to december and sometines into January. you can think all you want that you have picked them. I do not see any photographs to show otherwise and so I doubt your finds. Its botanically impossible. They are always gone before February is over. If they did grow now everyone would be picking them period. I am not going to get into a rant with you or anyone who doubts it but those are the facts. I have a picture of a morel growing in 1/4 inch of schmutz on a cement floor in the basement of a house in Portland- IN NOVEMBER.So, the occaisional fall mushroom popping up in spring is possible. However, a picture is better than a rumor, and a specimen taken to a local mycological society is even better.

Well the morel season is from spring through fall and sometimes into winter. Morels are a different genus than Psilocybe. Sometimes blkue ringers grow all year long here in Seattle if the weather is right, but there are no liberty caps until at least middle June or late August through Decemeber and sometimes a few will continue to grow through January and early Feb. Thats only if there is no freeze period.have a shroomy day and yes I picked some morels just two days ago, little brown ones. The black ones aren't yet up. Mj

ok, let me explain. It was late at night and my friend(we had smoked ALOT of pot) and I decided it would be a good idea to post a false topic like this one.We got the idea when someone claimed you could find libs in the spring and mj and a couple others jumped all over him with their vast shroom knowledge.the plan was to post it then come back in a few days and see the shit it stirred up.I now think this was a bad idea because i dont want to be known as "MR.face cumpulsive bullshiter" and psychonaut there is liberty caps in kamloops. Not all of it is desert, there are mountains that get lots off rain and are full of mushrooms. i know this because I camped on a few of them. sorry to waste time

Hello Mr. MC Face,First you say liberty caps. Then you say it was just a lie. Then you say Psychonaut wouldn't stop grilling you yet he only posted a short note saying "Unfortunately, lib caps don't grow in forest mountains." Next you say that you camped on them, and said but they were P. pelliculosa which may look like a lib but it's not. If so, why would you sleep on them and not pick them? A Mattso Line is now appropriate. AHA....... Well since you obviosly do not know what a lib or a P. pelliculosa looks like except maybe in a picture book. I sure wouldn't want to eat what you pick. Most likely the mushroom you observe in the mountains were probably a species of Mycena. Here is a picture of a trail in a clearcut with Psilocybe pelliculosa growing.
That really must have been comfortable sleeping on this kind of habitat in the mountains. I guess you must be the only person to sleep on a patch of Psilocybe pelliculosa which grow primarily abundantly in clearcuts on Alder wood branches between November and December since you say you camped on some, then it must have been last year. Because they sure wouldn't be growing now. You sure sound like someone who posts under a different name . By the way, if you go into the forest two or three feet off the trail or clearcuts and into the woods, there are never no more than a few, one or two or even three P. pelliculosa's and then very rarely a few more. It 's the man made environments that they grow profusely in and you can only find one and maybe two if you are lucky in a garden or mulch patch. Any more good stories? MC Face - I am in no way trying to offend you, so relax. I?m only stating facts. I have picked mushroom all over B.C. I just couldn?t see lib caps growing in Kamloops dry environment. Psilocybe pelliculosa is a little easier to believe. If your going to false post, and then post something that is hard to believe, you must get your facts straight. You must explain more - Time of year, habitat, location, etc. Most of us in this forum have at least a few years of experience in the field, and aren?t very easily fooled.Mjshroomer - Nice explanation and great Pics. ------------------ "I think of myself as an intelligent, sensitive human being with the soul of a clown which always forces me to blow it at the most important moments." MJSHROOMER: dont even bother trying to explain to MCFace. Your words of wisdom have fallen on deaf ears.Although Stamets does mention that Ps Semilanceata does come back in the spring in small numbers. (in his book, which I KNOW you dont like mj, Psilocybin Mushrooms of the world) I have never seen this happen... ------------------ Visit My website! http://titan.spaceports.com/~spore/
