identify and find yourself a healthy specimen, I found this 6ft tall specimen in the above last photo there in a swamp, and where the stem met the soil was about as big around as a dime.


grab yourself a pricker and a scraper, if your blade is serrated then you probably wont need a pin. use a small sharp point none the less and drag through the outter layer of tissue with it to make a little cut.

some quality lettuce "opium" beads

any part of the plant can be cut to produce latex, start with the smaller branches first, and work your way to the larger ones, most cuts put out about the same amount regardless of the size of the stem.

collect it while its fresh, or let it dry on the plant. I prefer to scrape it up fresh :shrug:

either way the latex should be left on a metal surface in a cool dark area thats well ventilated so it may "age"
it will be decent quality when its dark brown/black
usually 1-2 days, week long is optimum for long-term storage since it will form a hardened outside.

if your not one to kill a someone(a plant) by a thousand little cuts (theres a name for this in japan, similar to a medicinal mushroom name i believe), feel free to put it through a juicer or in a blender with a little bit of water and strain the resulting mass, evaporating the juice.

cutting latex is more "raw" and smoother with a strong pungent bitter taste, and the juicer extract is usually quite resinous and harsh, tasting more like grass lawn. both are quite efficient, but i prefer the cut stuff.

definitely sedating and relaxing, though I got some minor sharp pains in my arm and leg muscles, and in my stomach. ive noticed these sharp pains after drinking wild lettuce tea that I bought from my health-food store in the past. theres a very obvious opiate-like presence, though its a lot more sleep provoking than most opiates.

This is all for now, this will continue to be updated in my journal, more soon with milking pics of papaver rhoeas, lactuca sativa, and lactuca sativa var. longifolia.

HEy i have a couple plants that look exactly like that in my back yard, except the leaves are a bit more jagged...is there danger in extracting from the plants in my backyard? I dont want to poison myself..

doesnt compare at all, but its a good latex smoke and its very relaxing and opiate-like. it bleeds latex much like the real deal so its fun to harvest from.

could be anything, make sure 100% that its lactuca virosa.
there is a definite danger, you might smoke something poisonous.
you can always post pics here in the garden and see if someone could ID it. theres lots of botanical drawings and photos througout the web and erowid (erowids selection sucks, try google images) to be able to help with an ID.

once you see it a few times you will never forget it, i should get a closeup of the design on the leafs. i will have plenty of seeds soon also.

as soon as I first identified one I thought to myself "good lord this grows on every street in this city"
