however it's not the "best" approach.

The best approach would likely be the standard one. Liquid to bags, bags to straw. By bags I mean FPs hugo bags. I've done this many a time with birdseed and it works splendidly.

I can nearly guarantee your first time will be a failure, so keep it simple your first go round. Do several bags with smaller amounts. I wish I had done that my first time. Oh yea, and here is my liquid tek in case your interested:

If your target medium is straw:
Boil some water, turn it off and let the straw soak in there for about 3 hours. You can keep it on low heat if you like. Strain out the straw. Now use this water to make "standard" liquid innoc.

I.e. 4% by weight malt is added to the water. Don't bother with fancy equiptment, beer bottles with glass fragments work splendidly.

Add in an agar chunk once you've pcooked the above for about 30 mins and let it cool. Stir vigorously every 6 hours or so while awake. The stirring action with the glass fragments will cut up the agar chunks again and again, and in the end you will have the perfect sized third dimensional mycelial pieces for wickedly fast colonization. (Ref. GGMM) My best experience was using this technique with equadors which fully colonized an 8 lb bag of substrate in 7 days.

Have fun, and keep in mind you will make a mistake. If you sell your mushrooms for profit you will reap what you have sown.
