The blue color is the oxidation of the chemical psilocin. Psilocin stains/bruises blue when the mushroom is handled and slighlty damaged. The is a common effect in almost every psilocybe.

So what you are saying is that this is normal and I shouldn't be concerned. I just don't want to take any chances.

On further inspection I noticed that the blueing inside the stem only occured in the area of the water damage.

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the oxidation color and any molds that may infiltrate the mushroom?

thanks

Sounds like bruising to me.. An weakly shroom will often bruise internally like that.

A good test is, when you cut the shroom in half, they will bruise quickly because of the cut. If the bruising you see from the cut is the same discoloration you saw inside the mushroom initially, then I'd bet its bruising.

I really doubt water would have soaked into the shroom and damaged it, maybe it would bring contams onto the outside.

Congrads, be safe. No one who says eat or not can be sure or held liable for what you do though. You're making the call.

Yes its bruising, and bruising is the result of psilocin oxidation. Mushrooms often bruise in the wild because of dew on the grass and other things that come in contact with the mushroom. So the waterdrops that you said fell on the mushroom could have caused bruising.
