Re: I think Jesus would have been fascinating to meet. [Re: fivepointer]
    #7244106 -

Most of the Jesus story is borrowed from Egyptian, Persian, Indian Mythology. This is not difficult to prove. There are some sections, such as the Sermon on the Mount that cannot be traced to previous works, so many people credit it to Jesus, which isn't unreasonable.

The only way a person who has knowledge of Eastern mythology could possibly believe Jesus did everything the Gospels say he did is to also believe that Satan planted mythology hundreds or thousands of years before Jesus lived. To me, this is delusional, simply a way to make the pieces fit while driving the mind further into fantasy.

Jesus never saw a bible. As far as we know, the Gosples were written long after his death. There were many people back then who commanded small cults and claimed to be the Christ. The Romans compiled the bible, and it was their force which spread it through the land so rapidly. It was also the Romans who destroyed alternative Christ literature, as well as all the pagan literature they could get their hands on.

I don't think it's necessarily unreasonable to think that one's life could take on elements of mythology. Many of the mythological elements people point out are not from a single myth, but are in fact recurring archetypes in several myths. One can also narrate someone's life in such a way as to emphasize the parts which closely resemble mythology. That's not to say I think that everything in the Gospels literally happened as written, but I don't think the fact that it resembles other myths necessarily invalidates it as a historical event. If anything, if someone were the Son of God, I would expect their life to resemble mythology.

Horus and Jesus - Both concieved by immaculate conception. Both were the only begotten son of a/god. Horus mother: Meri, Jesus mother: Mary. Horus foster dad: Seb (Jo-Seph), Jesus foster dad: Joseph. Both Josephs were of royal decent. Both Jesus and Horus were born in an inconvienant place, cave or manger. The Egyptians held a winter solstice celebration portraying Horus born in a manger. Both Marys were visited by an angel. The birth of Horus and Jesus were heralded by a star, and were heralded by an angel. Both born between Dec 21-25. Herut tried to kill Horus, Herod tried to kill Jesus. Both were visited by three wise men. Both came of age at 12, and dissapeared until the age of 30. Both were baptised in a river at the age of 30. Both baptisers were beheaded. After the baptism, both Horus and Jesus were taken from the desert to the mountains and were tempted by Sut/Satan. Both then found disciples and traveled together. Both walked on water, cast out demons, healed the sick, restored sight to a blind man, raised the dead, and calmed the seas with their voice. Both gave an importaint sermon on a mount. Both were to rule 1000 years. Both were crucifyed between two thieves. Both were buried in a tomb. Both descended into hell and were resurected on the third day. Both were called "good shepherd", "lamb of god", "bread of life", "son of man", "the word", and "the fisher". Both are associated with Pisces the fish. Both are associated with the sun.

All this can be found with refrences at religioustolerance.org

There's no need to piece together mythology from various gods, one will do. Jesus is simply the latest manifestation of a story that has been told many times.

A good deal of the stuff that you relate to Horus can also be related to Mithras, Dionysus, and many others. So, which religion did Christianity steal it from? There is no one source of these myths. Instead, they reverberate throughout history. Christ is eternal, though he incarnated in human form as Jesus of Nazareth.

Ahh, I see what you are saying. I'm not sure I can believe that, but it's something I hadn't considered before.

Of course, the possibility exists that both are true. The first one with Horus didn't "take", so the whole experience was repeated.

i feel the same exact way mandrake. i absolutely loathe christianity and what it has become, but i do think there was an extrordinary man named jesus who did good things and had some revolutionary ideas. but as you said, its too bad weve ended up where we are with religion.

im sure ill catch some hell for saying this, but whatever. it is my opinion that jesus was half alien, the same aliens that created us. which to me, explains why he was out of the ordinary.

No, Isis (Horus' mother) was not a virgin.

Quote:
Both were the only begotten son of a/god.

Nope, there are many god births in Egyptian mythology.

Quote:
Horus mother: Meri, Jesus mother: Mary.

Horus' mother's name is Isis, not Meri.

Quote:
Horus foster dad: Seb (Jo-Seph), Jesus foster dad: Joseph.

Seb is not Horus' dad, Osiris is Horus' dad. Seb is Osiris' dad.

Quote:
Both Josephs were of royal decent.

Jesus' father was a man, descended from king David. Horus' father was a god, born from a god. 2 completely different types of "royal."

Quote:
Both Jesus and Horus were born in an inconvienant place, cave or manger.

2 people born in a place where the color blue is present wouldn't make them comparable, much like an "inconvenient place" doesn't. Being born in a cave vs born in a manger doesn't make for any comparison. By the way, Horus was born in a swamp, not a cave. The unfounded cave claim comes from Acharya S., author of The Christ Conspiracy.

Quote:
The Egyptians held a winter solstice celebration portraying Horus born in a manger.

Quote:
Both Marys were visited by an angel.
The birth of Horus and Jesus were heralded by a star, and were heralded by an angel.

As mentioned, Horus' mother is Isis, not Meri, and Horus was not heralded by an angel or star. This claim once again comes from Acharya S.

Quote:
Both born between Dec 21-25.

Jesus was not born Dec 25th. Christmas' date did not come until 800 AD, and the date was chosen by the Catholic church to overrule pagan celebrations at the same time, not because it was Jesus' perceived birthday.

Quote:

Seth (or Set) tried to kill Horus, Herod Jesus.
