Re: I think Jesus would have been fascinating to meet. [Re: shakercee]
    #7235785 -

There is little to no evidence that someone named Jesus existed. However I believe he existed, but don’t clam any proof, and he was called something else other than Jesus. Many others have come before and after him. I don’t see "Jesus" in the Christian sense like in the bible, but believe he was an especially talented and spiritually advanced human being.

I don’t like labels or consider myself this or that, but I prefer the Gnostic gospels over the bible, as the bible contradicts itself far to much, but I respect peoples right to believe it as long as it doesn’t harm me or other people I care about.

And yes modern Christianity is definitely a remoulding of ancient paganism, as uncomfortable that maybe for some Christians you only have to unbiasedly look at history to see it.

Id love to meet "Jesus" Yeshua, he would be a fascinating individual to talk to. One thing I know for sure is that Yeshua would probably be shocked and disgusted at what is now done in his name, mostly by many fundamentalist Christians. Sometimes I feel sorry for Yeshua as he has had his name dragged through the dirt, mostly by those who claim to follow him.

So there's an excited Jesus :naughty: which in fact wasn't Jesus after all, even though he existed :smirk:

Interesting... :strokebeard: :sherlock: (those two will follow the leads )

basically to clarify what I said, there is no real evidence that a Jesus figure existed, but I believe, (don’t claim as fact) that Someone like Jesus did exist, a healer, preacher, Wiseman, whatever you wish to call him, but I doubt very much he was called Jesus and there have been others with the same ideas and abilities in other parts of the world and at different times. I cant prove this, so I guess its faith, its just my personal belief. No one should believe it also, just because I believe it, as that would just be illogical, as others have not done what I have done to get to that conclusion.

In my view there was a “Jesus“, just not the version of Jesus that existed in the bible.

PS: Sorry I just realised my spelling mistake

It was my spell-check I swear

So what you are saying is that put together a wonderful cast of people (healers, wiseman, preacher) and created a person called "Jesus."

Then who was it that they put on the cross?

CRUCIFICTION [Re: shakercee]
    #7235883 -

Actually crucifixion was the mean of capital punishment those days, many people were killed that way for breaking law...
Crucifixions did happened but how can you tell if one of them was Jesus? Or that Jesus existed...

Whether the real "Jesus" actually went to the cross is something else that is up for debate. Personally, I believe the man who many now call Jesus, whose history has been distorted by the Church, may well have been killed because his beliefs threatened those in  power at the time, but its possible he was killed by some other way, such as being nailed to a tree, which was also common at the time. I do not claim any absolutes when I am talking here, I am just expressing what I believe personally based on my learning of these things.

I am not quite sure how I can make it more clear.

Someone at around the time Jesus was said to exist I believe did exist in the location he was believed to exist in, but was he exactly how the bible portrayed him? I believe no, Was he called Jesus in them times, I believe no, did he act and believe and say all the things reported in the bible? I believe no. I believe someone (call him what you wish, Jesus, an exceptionally Wiseman with healing abilities and a great mind that radically changed many peoples ways of thinking) did exist. I don’t claim to know exactly who or what he was, or claim any facts. But I am positive in myself that someone exceptional at the time and location did walk the earth, and the reality of who he was has been distorted by religious organisations over the millennia, the Catholic church being the worst culprit of this.

Many believe you have to believe in “Jesus” as the church tells you to, this is dogma, I reject human dogma as nothing more than mind control and which limits understanding. To not question is the biggest enemy of truth there is.

No one has an exact gospel on who or what "Jesus" was, believed or did, its all speculation even from the church, but I believe its more likely that the church has the least accurate truth as to what this figure they now call Jesus was. They have shaped over time the figure of Jesus you see today to suit their own control power hungry agenda.

Well, none of the other criminals or lawbreakers ever got to have a religion based on his life and sayings.

There is an interesting book "Jesus Lived in India" by Holger Kersten, that i plan to read in the coming week.

Briefly, it asserts that Jesus survived the crucifixion, and after the resurrection, came to India and died of old age. The tomb of Jesus still exists in Kashmir.

Yes, I have read the theory many times. And it sure is a possibility. I also believe its possible "Jesus" travelled to the Far East and learnt Eastern healing and meditation techniques in the mostly unknown years of his life when he is hardly spoken/written about, which would explain his healing abilities when he was again written about on his return to his land of birth. Many of Jesus’ teachings (not just written about in the bible) are identical to teachings in the far east, such as with Hinduism and Buddhism.

I understand the lack of direct physical and historical evidence for Jesus, but I think some of the best evidence for him is the historically specific time frame in which Christianity emerged. If Jesus were merely a mythological construct, as some have asserted, we would expect to see Christianity emerging and evolving slowly over time, rather than popping up suddenly in the first century AD. It seems to me that there had to be someone real on whom this Jesus person was based, even if his legend was enhanced with myths from other religions.

If Jesus did not physically exist then Matthew, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, ect. are all chronic liars for they all testify that He did exist. In fact John writes that if someone says Jesus did not come in the flesh he is an antichrist.

2Jo 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Those who say He is a myth are not of God.

Those who say He is a myth are out to destroy the integrity of scripture, truly a satanic enterprise.

Sure I don't subscribe to the Christan ideals but Jesus himself had some good ideas. A lot of what he said did make sense at the time and still does if you think about it. Very interesting IMO, too bad most of his followers tend to misinterpret him.

What would you say to Him if he said to you that He is the Son of Man/God. That you need to repent and believe who he is and what He has done? That there is no life without Him and no way to know God without Him?

So what would be so hard to believe that those dudes were chronic liars?
Hmmm now let me see... id I wanted to make my story believed, one of the things I would do is make others think that those who do not sustain my story are liars and have bad intentions.
So... are you allowed to judge who's the antichrist?

If Jesus makes a second appearance, and wishes to dance and sing, and :what: takes acid, , (probably with Bon Jovi's It is my life playing in the background), in short living the moment, would the Bible-thumping religiosits follow him?

I think I have the answer already, you would judge him as being a blasphemer and an antichrist, and he would be tortured and killed all over again, because of exactly the same kind of dogmatic attitude that got him killed the first time around.

I don't go by what a man at a podium says. I go by what the Word of God says. Jesus did not regard the bible as "some book", but as the very Word of God. Jesus never said there are many paths to God and many Sons of God/Man. So this "jesus" you describe is an imposter who should be ignored.

Jesus was very "dogmatic" in His teachings. He taught with authority, never wavering. Those with ears will hear. The reason He was crucified was that His teachings opposed those of the Pharisees/Sadducees. Especially since His healings, miracles and teachings testified that He was indeed the Son of God/Man. They could not accept this and considered it Him a blasphemer. They were self-righteous religionists who thought that law keeping made them right with God. Jesus offended them by declaring that their best religious deeds are dung and the only way to be justified with God is through Him and His righteousness alone. This is greatly offensive to them since they were full of self-righteous pride.
