kicked out of school (boo), blessing in disguise (yay), moving to CA from NJ need adivce (please)

Through a paperwork technicality between my school and a bank the school withdrew me from all of my classes for this semester. I am approaching graduating so i had a pretty intense schedule and a number of tough classes to get into. I was set, until this bs pops up, after doing all i could to fix it no matter what i cant take that schedule this upcoming semester. I've had nothing but bad experiences dealing with the administrative end of william paterson university so this was the straw that broke the camel's back. I am outta there.

Now the good part.

I have been planning on moving to CA (either San francisco or Tahoe) after graduating. Now i am just going to finish school out there somewhere. Tahoe is looking less likely now that i have to make the decision, I have a million and one questions for anyone who currently lives there but what advice would you give someone picking up their life and moving to a new city?

get a small time job in advanced in the city you want to move to, get all that residential stuff down solid, and take the plunge!

i guess it sounds alot easier than it actually is...

I'm interested in doing the same as soon as I finish my associates degree program. I want to move to CA to get my master's and possibly my doctorate in the science field.

I really have no idea where I would want to move in CA though, any suggestions?

I think the west coast would be a wonderful place to start my career/life.
