Vista is pretty solid, despite such an overwhelming amount of bad-talk about it, it seems to be holding its ground.

Im not sure what Vista you are talking about, but Windows Vista is not a great OS yet. I have it and so far I have run into 2 major problems... drivers uninstalling randomly (my GFs laptop) and Windows Vista randomly uninstalling system registry files.

After discussing both problems with Microsoft and having them troubleshoot us for close to 6 hours total, they told us that the issue was a bug that has yet to be fixed. We were told to use older drivers that are unstable with Vista because there was less likely to be problems. The registry file occurance is intermittent and a number of things can cause it. I was told to use caution when installing programs.

It seems to me Vista is simply ahead of its time. In a few years the hardware will catch up and it'll be more coomon OS, I'm sure.

You can't be serious...

You're actually proposing that I embrace being an unpaid, unrewarded, out-of-pocket beta tester for Microsoft?

Yes, when you own a monopoly it is pretty easy to force people to use your product... they don't really have a choice...

As soon as Microsoft start to pay me, rather than charge me, to be a beta tester, then I will think about it. Why should I have to pay for a buggy system in order to help a monopoly develop a more stable system?

Not true. A good design coupled with robust testing procedures....

Everyone bashes Vista without even trying it. I hate those kind of people, and decided to install Vista to give it my own personal rating.

Overall opinion -- It sucks.

I really hate the anti-microsoft people running around spitting out words not because they know what they are talking about, but because its the cool thing to do these days.

But they are right. I installed Vista, and had it removed in 24 hours. Slow, bloated, and unstable.

I havent had a Blue Screen of Death since windows 98, but hey...its back.

I also dont appreciate random reboots, the lack of drivers, and full integration of alot of slow, unwanted features.

Booooooo

I recently got a hp dv9000z notebook. It came with vista from the factory. After I cleaned up vista and and it running as good as it was going to get it was still using around 500 mb of ram just idling.Vista is a total ram hog and is very very unstable.Needless to say,I am back to xp.

the only thing that'd make me jump to vista would be the 4-gig ram support over 2-gig in XP. Vector graphics use alot of memory...shit even working on 12 megapixel SLR frames en masse brings the system to a crawl :frown:

Vista supports DX10 witch you'll need a DX10 video card and a game that has DX10 to get DX10 effects.

Heres what DX10 looks like in motion
