Windows Vista

My dads old computer just got taken out by lightening a couple weeks ago. 2 of our DSL filters were blown into 3 pieces and our satellite got taken out as well. We're all pretty sure our house took an almost direct hit. Anyways, my dad got a new computer and i hate it. More specifically i hate Vista. It does look better than xp but thats about all its got on it. What are some setting changes and tricks to make vista flow better? I've tried to change some of them but Vista is just too annoying for me to figure it out myself. thanks!

Turning off UAC is key. The default windows firewall sucks as well so I would turn that off. With both of those disabled and with all the newest updates you shouldnt run into to many problems unless its with hardware drivers that are not compatible. A lot of companies are lagging on their vista support.
