Honestly I know I'm gonna get alot of rebuttle to this argument. But here goes, when using a method such as cakes the total amount of fruiting potential is determined by the nutrients available inside the cake in combination with the surface area available for fruiting. That being said alot of people choose to "case" their cakes somewhat expanding the fruiting area, but this provides very little if any added nutrients for the cakes(unless using something like a manure casing which is actually more of a layer of spawn). So the answer to your question in my own oppinion would be to look at some spawning methods. For instance straw, it can be done easily! I posted a tek for it in the Advanced cultivation forum. Read over it, and if you have any further questions go ahead and drop me a private message, I'll be more then happy to answer them. I'm not saying cakes don't have their place in cultivation, just that when it comes to producing a quantity it really requires spawning to avoid tons of unneccesary work.Latez.

Ripper: A bit of rebuttal... Actually, cakes usually stop fruiting because they run out of water before they run out of nutrients. A good casing layer provides (among other things) the mycelium with the extra water it needs to push out those extra shrooms before the nutrients in the substrate are exhausted. See, ideally, your nutrients should run out before (or at the same time as) your moisture does. I'm sure you've seen the pictures of PF cakes with drinking straws in them to provide more water later on in their life times. The yield in this case is boosted because, with the extra water that is being added, the mycelium is given the opportunity to use more of the undigested food in the substrate for the purposes of fruiting. The same thing happens with casing. ------------------ "It's all in the mind, you know." -George Harrison
