bought an incubator light
from a pet store
along with bird food and baby bird food mix

then you would raise them
and reproduce them
and build a bird army that would take over the world

And, yeah, I know it wasn't my fault. If anything it was the fucking vet's fault. They knew I'd already touched them and they said to leave 'em outside anyway. I should have known that it was a bad idea but when I first saw them I was in "Oh shit! They're still alive. I gotta do something." mode.

I'll tell you what.

The vet most likely knew that the birds would be rejected by their mother, but they told you to put them back outside to fool you into thinking that at least until they DIED so that he wouldn't have to deal with some hippie (no offense) wanting to save the world one lousy baby bird at a time (no doubt not even an endangered species)

my stepfather has been a vet for 30 years and this is prety much how he operates. he answers calls for family pets and whatnot but when people like this ring up and say "I found a sick baby rat what do I do?" he'll probably say "put it in your catfood dish, the cat will take it in and look after it and nurse it back to health, if by some rare chance the cat eats it, then bring it in to me and I'll make it all better"

And yeah, you're right. Well, except for the part about me being a hippie (not taking offense, just stating the facts). But yeah, I was thinking that they probably said that on purpose too. Still, they could have reminded me that they wouldn't make it outside and been half as helpful as the people on here.

Yeah I know what you mean

when i was like 11 or so I came home from school and saw a big ass cage on the verandah with a massive motherfuckin bird in it. I was like WHAT THE SHIT IS THAT it was the biggest (flying) bird I'd ever seen.
Mum told me it was an albatross (google them, theyre huge. wingspan of like 2+ metres) and that she found it in the front lawn at her work. It had broken its wing and couldnt fly.

We waited for my stepfather to finish his work (he's a vet) and we took the bird there to let him check it out. He put it on the ventiltor and waited for it to pass out, then started looking at it's wing. It was pretty fucked. Both the main bones on one wing were completely fucked, but the bird ended up dying (from shock I'm guessing) like halfway thru anyway.

He didnt deliberately put it down, he was geniuinely concerned for it, and theyre an endangered species around here anyways (that particular one was)

it was pretty sad

but i've never seen a bird that big up close before

OOOO i have my bird story now.

Ulike you guys mine has a happy ending.

1.Found a baby robin on the ground that wass still alive.

2.Took an old bird cage and put a old robins nest in it.

3.Picked a shitload of worms from my school (i was 11 years old)

4.Blended them with coffee grinder and mixed with water and fed to bird.

5.Thsi little fucking shithead ate so much worms it was hard to keep up, but i did.

6.A couple weeks passed, it grew feathers and i could put a bowl of live worms in the cage.

7. I put worms on the grass outside and let the robin hop around and find them.

8.I gently lifted the robin into the air to let it use its wings.

9.After about 4 more days i went outside with it.

10.My cat ate it when it was hopping around.

11. Just kidding the robin started finding its own worms by itself and a couple hours later when i lifted it up and thrusted into the air gently it soared around the back of my house and then landed in a elderbeery tree with a shitload of other robins.

12.It actually came back down to me when i brought my worm bucket back out and ate the worms from my hand like always.

13. The next day after school i came home and i went onto the back deck which was 1 stories off the ground and i had worms and the robin came back and ate some then left forever.

Its all goddam true and i probably picked over 1000 worms.
