Some baby birds (replies needed quickly)
    #2615650 -

So I get up this morning, head to the kitchen and notice a shoebox with five baby birds in it. Apparently they fell out of their nest. Well... my mom told me to feed them and stuff, but I got a few questions.

1. What should I feed them? Currently I am feeding them mashed up bread mixed with water (something my mom made)through a syringe.

2. How often should they be fed?

hmmmm what about milk? Do birdies drink Milk? I think you should feed them as often as they cry or let you know there hungry, maybe you can dig up some worms and feed them those, thats what the mommys do but they chew them up first then spit it in the babys mouth. lol so maybe you can mash em up.

how young are these babies?

Are they itty bitty ones?

I sugest calling your local animal shelter/help line and getting advice.

improper feeding at such a young age will probably kill them.  imagine feeding steak to your 3 months old.

That's kinda what I was thinking, the bread/water seemed a little insufficient to me. When I first fed them as soon as I opened the box all their little heads poked up, faced towards me and opened their mouths. You can even hear their little chirp chirps. This is actually kinda cool.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

bread will kill them.
you need to feed them formula via syringe taking notice of the crop (bulge in front) to see that it is no over-filled.
it may rupture, also, sour crop may occur if over fed.
you need to find out what the birds are.
seed eaters can have parrot formula.

Get these things called monkey biscutes. Soak em in water and mash em into a paste. then feed via a syringe. When there crop is full you will no by the big sac of food under their throat.

I found some info on hand-feeding baby birds which looks pretty useful. Mitch, the bread was mixed with water to a thin paste. I'm pretty sure they're robins.

for the sake of the birds (unless you dont really care if they die) you should call your local shelter/animal line and ask for assistance regardless o what you find on the web.

You can never be to armed with information.

O.K. well, talked to someone at a shelter and they said I should make a makeshift nest (CoolWhip container, grass, etc.)for them and hang it next to the original nest because the mother will come back looking for them.

take them everywhere you go...keep them in the box and push them around in a stroller. Or tie a leash to the box and drag it when you walk..haha.

roll around in some tar and rip up some pillows and get feathers all over yourself and run around in the yard flapping your arms to teach them how to fly.

Put some worms in a blender and feed that to them. That's cool how you're taking care of them like that.
