Floop is right, more than 90% of the ambulance calls related to shrooms are from tourists. At most smartshops I know of there are informational pamphlets on mushrooms in different languages. There has been talk of banning the sale of mushrooms to tourists. Also the sale of marijuana to tourists has come under discussion because neighboring countries are complaining about our policy.
some populist parties are calling for an outright ban, but the coalition is waiting for a report on mushrooms by our health authority. The last report on the issue wasn't in favor of a ban.
A ban might be good for keeping it out of the hands of tourists but it would cause more problems for the local population like untrained people going into fields and picking poisonous mushrooms.
I think the whole issue is ridiculous and judging by the sudden number of stories about it, it does seem like the media has really taken to the issue. Drunk people, especially the British, in Amsterdam still cause a lot more problems. Maybe the policy should be that not only a pamphlet is given, but that trained staff are actually obliged to give information and tips. Like don't combine it with alcohol, find a quiet and friendly place and have friends who watch over you.

You'll have locals just offering to go and procure it for the tourists - at an extra charge, of course. And so the black market will come into existence again..

we should compile a list of facts.

How many people jump from buildings from suicide each day.
How many people die getting hit by trains etc.

We should make informational packets that educate about proper use,
Let people know that if they are mildly crazy that it can magnify it with out proper guidance.

People who are suicidal should not be doing drugs.

But then again there should be places that do healing ceremonies with the mushrooms.

Cultures have always used mushrooms as a tool. We seem to use the tool as a way to make money more then a way to help heal people.

Those people that commit suicide on mushrooms, just can't take their reality, and probably just barley handle it on the day to day. These people take the drugs as a way to get away from their reality. But all the mushroom really does is show you what your reality actually is at the moment.

I think there is room for mushrooms in every culture. But it can't be about getting fucked up. It's got to be about finding yourself and the beauty that always surrounds us. It's about exploring yourself and the rel;ationships between you and the rest of the world. Some people can't take that. It can be an overwhelming thing.

Maybe Amsterdam needs more support groups for the people that come there.

I agree it must suck being a local in Amsterdam. Every single day dealing with loud mouthed fucked up tourists having a blast on their " get fucked up" holiday.

Maybe mushrooms should be taken out of the shops and placed into the hands of smarter people that know better. Say have a nice house with a nice yard and a nice comfy atmosphere. All that Jazz

OMR remember that talk we were at, with they guys and the Ayahuasca. Remember how they had a house with helpers. I think if we ritualized the mushrooms like they have been until now. It would be much better for uninitiated people.

See the gov and religion, ripped apart the mushroom culture, burnt the pagans and witches, the healers and the earthly people. Made us warship and get on our knees to the GOD and the SON of GOD. But the son of god is really the SUN. Fucked up religious freaks, can't understand that the bible is nothing more then astrology with a human twist.

They can try to wipe us out with their bullshit controlling tentacles. But we still warship the plants and herbs we still love the world and it's people. After seeing so much thats outside, sometimes we need to dive down deep to the inside.

My bad for the rant or what ever.....

without reading all this i think i have a surefire way to prevent acidents while tripping...thow it may not be practical.

my idea that when a headshop selles mushrooms they are also required to sell/rent a "trained" sitter as well.

this would also provide yet another economic boost to headshops and the profit they can provide/taxes
