Belgium hunting,Really need help!

Hi,I live in belgium.I'm a noob at shroom hunting but i have studied.
Now,i live at the edge of a thick forest with a stream that goes through the forest with lots oflogs.And my house is also surrounded by cowfields.probably about 20 cowfields in a 2 mile radius.
I have been shroom hunting for about a month now.After every heavy raining day i check those fields but i find never find anything.I have checked those fields over and over in every weather condition.Raining,sunny,misty and moist,dry.I havent found nothing,not even a non active.Sometimes i find non actives in the forest(te forest is devided between thick pines and just woods.Thereis also a cliff)i check the fields and forest thourougly and i mean thourouly.And after a month i still havent found anything.I check after almost every rain.I have looked throug fields on other cities aswell.
am i doing anything wrong?what should i do cause im really discouraged...there is no shroom expert here in the part i live.
if anyone can give me some advice i would really appreciate it.I have read this sites guides allot but they didnt really help.


also,i have a problem with the cows...Whenever i go to a field,the cows start jumping,running and swarming me.I am(dont laugh)afraid of them now.When they(there is usually 30 cows and bulls included in a field)start running at me i make a getaway and i start paniking.Im afraid that when they start running(imagine 30 cows running at u at top speed)and swarming at me i frantically break for the fence.What should i do?Should i just stand there and let the cows and bulls surround me or is running to the fence a good idea?
Does anybody have the same problem like me cause im almost afraid to enter a field now!

Sorry for all the text,i think this site is the best place to ask.I'm pretty desperate to find actives since i have never tripped b4.

I don't think anyone from Belgium posts here regularly, so your best bet is the forum search engine.

I don't know much about cow psycology, but I think we have some experts here. They probably know you and recognize you, and know that every time they see you, you will run. This is fun for them, so they enjoy your presence and like seeing you and running after you. Just a guess.

I have no idea if they will accidently or on purpose kill you when they catch up to you.

Maybe you should try making friends with them, I bet they like food.

You could easily die if they step on you, your best bet is probably to keep them calm.

Look for active gymnopilus on those logs and pan subbs in lawns.

alright thnx for the post.

i went out an bought loads of lettuce.50 cents a piece and they were on sale.I went all the way to the middle of the field and as usual they all came swarming to me but i tried to overcome my fear so i just stood there but thank shrooms,they didnt attack me,they just stood there mooing so i gave em some letuce and after that they went on there merry way lol.I looked all the possible places where shrooms grow so i checked out 2 sheep and horse fields and found some libs according to identification.
all of this happened 3 hours ago so i guess the laws of attraction really does exist!im drying them now,i have about 45 of them and they all bruised blue!My first active find(im so proud of myself!)!thanks to everyone for making this site since u guys advised the sheepfields!

Hi lexterian. Although I'm not Belgian, I do happen to live < 10km from the Dutch-Belgian border. I hope I can be of some help here.

As to your hunting efforts: in the cowfields, you may find liberty caps as soon as the temperatures drop to about 5C. Look for fields with clumps of sedge and tall grass. Here's an example of a field that I harvested several hundreds of libs from late October last year:

I don't know at what altitude you are, but it strikes me as extremely odd that you are appear to have found libs at this time of year. Could you manage to post some pics? It's not to talk you down or to ridicule you, but I fear that you might have misidentified some mushrooms here.

About the cows: I sounds to me like they are very curious (they tend to be if the farmer treats them well) and/or you're getting too close. If you keep a bit more distance, they'll probably won't bother coming for you. In any case, as you already noticed, cows don't tend to be aggressive. Yes, they are curious and they will come and sniff you up and down (if they actually dare to come within 2 meters from you), but they won't actually attack. They can be a bit clumsy though.

You can find Liberty caps, Psilocybe fimetaria, P. strictipes and even P. cyanescens in Belgium.

The cyans grow in woodchipped garden s of mulch, preferably hardwoods.

And the first three in well fertilized pastures and meadows or fields of cattle or sheep. Sometimes in public parks which have been fertilized regularly by landscapers.

cows are really dumb they wont hurt you, just stand your ground and let them know that you are superior. Bulls might but you'd probably have to be intentionally pissing them off for that to happen.

Since many cows can be cows or steers, steers with balls will chase you. I had a fence torn down once on Oahu being chased by bulls on the northshore near Sunset Beach.

And I ran like hell.

I also had a group of horses chase me once at bartels Meat Packing Plant in Eugene Oregon. I jumped the fence and they stayed at the fence till I decided to go elsewhere.

I also once got partially electrocuted by a fence when the farmer noticed me and turned up the electricity. Knocked me out for at least 20 minutes or more.

SOme cows will come up and sniff your backside and try to lick salt form your skin. Those are just irritating cows.

I use to use my babys diaper bag (pampers and bottled milk stains most likely. BUt they could smell it.

99% of the cows around here are really cows. Ah well, it's pretty easy to see the difference anyway :wink:
