First hunt, help ID

Well, just went on my first real mushroom hunt. Went into the cowfield and after flipping many piles of cow dung over, and only see one pin (think it was a cube, gonna go back to the same spot tonight), I decided to head home. On the drive back I noticed a few mushrooms on the very edge of the field. I decided to grab a couple (left most of them) to see if any of you could ID them for me. Pics and details:

I'm not sure if this mushroom is the same as the other two. The gills are a blackish/brown/almost purple color, but the rest of the info is pretty much the same.

Habitat: Found on the outskirts of a cow field, not in cow dung, though, on a very hot day after a few days of heavy rain. Found in south Georgia.
Gills: The gills are a whiteish to pinkish white color.
Measurements: The caps measured about 9cm across. The stems were about 7-9cm long.
A spore print is on the way and I'll have it tommorrow. I'm sure that will help.

They look like an Agaricus species. The last two photos could be the same species, maybe just aged more.

Those are Agaricus, and they will produce spore prints that are a dark chocolate brown.

Identification to species is difficult. To start we need to know what color they bruise and their odor. To bruise, cut one in half vertically and scrape the inside (all of it) with your knife edge hard enough to bruise the tissue. Color changes can take up to an hour.

Happy mushrooming!

Ok, bruising is in progress and will let you know how it turns out.

I don't know much about the Agaricus mushrooms, so I did a quick search and a few sites say some species are edible...anything else of note in the genus?

Sorry to double post but, it's already bruising a good bit. It's turning yellow in the places I really scraped the tissue.

The odor is not very strong, but I'd say it's almost sour smelling, like sour milk.

Here's a quote from another site regarding yellow staining:

Quote:

Some (but not all) of the yellow stainers have a strong, phenolic odor, and most of them turn yellow when a drop of KOH is applied. Repeated rubbing of the cap margin will often produce yellow bruising in this group, but the best place to observe the yellow staining is frequently in the flesh in the base of the stem. Most (all?) of the mildly poisonous species belong to the yellow staining group.

http://www.bluewillowpages.com/mushroomexpert/agaricus.html

It suggests that the yellow stainers have a possibility of being poisonous.

Online resources suggest not eating Agaricus species that stain yellow at the base of the stem.

The Arvenses section seems likely.

Quote:

Arvenses Section
Diagnosis
Cap up to 7" across

Flesh stains or ages yellow, and stays yellow (on its own, or with KOH)

Partial veil usually has two distinct layers.

Mature fruiting body usually quite tall (stem 5-10" long), and often quite wide as well

Odor sweet, usually almondy, sometimes of anise, but different people will sometimes perceive it differently

The gills are greyish at first, not pink
