The forum seems to have been real slow the last couple of days so i thought id post somthing to spice it up a bit. Anything crazy or out of the ordinary, or even just downright interesting happen while out on a hunt? Ever found something AWESOME besides mushrooms while looking for mushrooms?

This forum kinda starts to dwindle out during the winter untill the few Australians and New Zealanders start finding things.

As far as hunting stories goes, I've got plenty but I need to get to bed so I'll post some tomorrow.

Found a few pot plants hiking through the woods to a pasture I was scoping out, but nothing fantastic.

One time in the Poconos while looking for chanterelles I was harassed by this guy, maybe 15 or 16 years old. He was convinced I was gathering hallucinogenic mushrooms and kept asking me things. I guess he came to this conclusion because I had several rather large bluing boletes that I wanted to examine at home. The retard pushes my basket so it spills, grabs two of the boletes, and jets. It wasn't worth it for me to chase him. I know they weren't toxic because my family eats that variety all the time with no ill effects. I just hope he fell off a cliff while running home with his "goodies".

This really isn't about mushroom hunting, but here gos.

I was at a party in Morgantown WV. when I heard some people talking about wild pot growing in a field under a bridge in *******. I didn't hear much of the conversation but I had the next day off so i drove the three hours to ******* the next day to see if I could find it. ******* is small, and after about an hour of driving around town I smelled it while crossing one of the bridges. I had my fishing pole with me and went searching along the river bank. It wasn't long before I saw a four foot cannabis plant growing out of the mud along side the river. It had lots of leaves but almost no bud; every calyx had a seed in it. I looked around; Sure enough, the adjacent cow field was full of wild pot. I filled two 40 gallon garbage bags with the stuff, packed them into the hatchback of my little car and split. The car was absolutely reeking the entire drive home and I was paranoid as hell. The worst part was that I had to drive right past a maximum security federal prison with 80 gallons of reeking cannabis stuffed into the back of my car. When i finally made it home me and my roomies smoked some and it was absolutely worthless. I cooked it down into resin to concentrate the THC; it was still worthless. I even tried a tek using H2SO4 to change the inactive canabinols into THC but that didn't work either. I finally dumped the stuff in a car wash dumpster. No matter how hard you try you can't get high from feral hemp. Even though I didn't get high the whole thing was a good time.

I was smokin a bowl behind a church near a cyan spot, when 3 raccoons, 2 bigguns, and a baby approached. At first they didn't see me, and crept closer and closer (I was in the shadows), I was getting kinda freaked out, so I pulled my windbreaker over my head like wings, and started stamping, this is what you do for cougars apparently, but I thought in the situation it was appropraite. Scared the livin' bejesus out of them, and they booked.

About 5 minutes later a pine cone hit me on the head, and sure enough there were three racoon heads peeping out over the roof on me, the biggest one making a wierd hissing noise. So I left, but the little bastards followed me a half mile to my friends apartment.

Not at all exiciting, but nothing notable has happened to me while picking besides that, well except a close call with a cop.

I bumped into a Russian picking Boletas with his son (6 yrs old probably). They were at my cyan picking spot and i asked him about mushroom picking and such. He asked me if i was russian and i said "no". Then he's like, "well, how do you know about mushrooms then"? LOL

So i showed him a few cyans i had in my bag, trying to explain that i wasn't really into the edibles around that time in the season.
He told me to throw them away, cuz they were probably poisonous.
I was like "haha, whatever dude, i'm gonna go trip, see ya"!

One nite walking home drunk from a friends house a few blocks away, I came across some 'cats', so i was gonna 'pet' them...well it was a momma raccoon and 3 babies, it hissed at me in that weird..pissed off raccoon noise, and lunged at me..i ran and it followed..almost 300 yds inside of my apartment complex, about 2/3 the way thru my sprint I saw a guy on the second story of some apartments out on his balcony smoking, he pointed and bust up laughing...it was pretty humilating =\. I'd have rather just had one thrown a pinecone at me =|.

Ah, fuck it. I can't sleep. Time for some stories.

Alright... I hadn't ever picked cubes up untill this past summer. LizardKing was friendly enough to show me the ropes. We got in his canoe and went down a river, then pulled the canoe out in what seemed to be just woods. We walked up the hill and sure enough there was a cowfield. We were trying to find some cubes and I came across a big ass snake. I'm about 95% sure it was a common water snake. I tried to catch the fucker but he escaped. Anyways, we kept on walking and we were finding some big ass cubes.

Everything's going great, then we hear gunshots we booked it into the woods and laid low to see if we could find out where they were coming from. We determined that it wasn't coming from the field we were in. Talk about being scared shitless. The gunshots continuted thoughout the rest of the hunt, nervewracking to say the least.

Then, on this same hunting foray, we were walking along the fence line and we hear a tractor coming, so LK fucking books it and jumps the barbed wire fence no problems. One problem, the post was rotten , so when he jumped the post broke. With all the adrenaline going, I followed, not noticing the post. I grabed the top as i was running and swung my first leg over with no problem, then I let go of the post and it sprung back up. Thats right my leg was going this way ==> and the barbed wire <== that way. It dug deep into my leg leaving a good 8 inch long cut that bled for a long time. My pant leg was ripped off completely, my cigarette fell out of my mouth, wallet and keys out of my pocket.

Here's a pic of the barbed wire cut(I've got a huge scar there now): For those of you with a queasy stomach, don't click that link, it's a bit graphic. Keep in mind that's almost my the entire backside of my thigh and I'm 6'5". Big ass cut.

All this trouble just to find out that there was another field on the other side of the river and that's where the tractor was. No way he could have seen us.

Anyways we kept on hunting, found an ass load of cubes:

That's probably the most exciting story I have.

I've encountered all kinds of animals while hunting. LK and I found a baby deer just sleeping next to a log over the summer... here's a pic:

Onetime a friend and I were driving down a dirt to go hunt Chantrelles and there was a 10-12 inch long snaping turtle in the road. I got out of the car to try to help him out and the fucker kept trying to bite me. So I started moving him with my foot. Then the damn thing latched on to my shoe. I had to shake him hardcore to get him to let go.

Here's a pic of some other animals I've found and/or caught during hunting:
Salamanders:

Frogs/Toads:

A spider:

Box turtle:

I've found tons of snakes. One main reason for this is that I look for them, it's kind of an addes bonus. I normaly take a snake hook with me when I go hunting in the woods. I've encountered two Copperheads while hunting, both were captured and kept as pets for a short amount of time. Yes, I know I'm crazy.

Here's pics of the Copperheads:

#1:

#2(had him for about 6 or 7 months):

Other snakes...

A Ring-Neck snake:

A 4-5 foot long Black Racer that bit the bejesus out of me when I caught it. Just threw it in to the aquarium so I could get pics then I let it go:

The bite:

Alright, I guess thats it for show and tell for right now.

Nah, turtles are boring and are known to carry hepatitis. Not to mention it's hard to keep their cage from smelling like ass.

Why get your run of the mill turtle when you can keep a venomous snake?

BTW, I've been handling poisonous snakes for years and was taught how to do it. I don't advise you people to mess with snakes when you find them, could be a very bad idea.
