Perma Munchies
    #7139257 -

I quit smoking about a month ago. Just went cold turkey and didn't even have a problem. It's the first time in 10 years I even tried to quit.

Now I can't stop eating. I have Perma Munchies.

From the minute I wake up until I go to sleep I've got my head in the fridge looking for something else to eat. I'm halfway through a bag of cookies as I type this.

It's kind of a positive thing because I lost a lot of weight over the last few months while I was going through chemotherapy, so it's almost like I have to make up for lost time?

Apparently smoking really is an appetite suppressant. I'm trying to eat good stuff, but I'm also a vegetarian who ALWAYS eats good food, so I'm craving cookies and salty stuff and chocolate like there is no tommrow.

Cookies. Mmmmmm.

Keep eating!  You need it.  I was getting the impression that you were starting to look stick-like.

Did the chemo make you lose your hair?  If so...I'm sorry.  :frown:

Love your avatar, Randall.

If eating has replaced smoking as my pleasure chemical releasing action, am I going to balance out eventually, or do I have to train myself to balance out?

I had the perma munchies when I quit smoking too, but I quit quiting.  :nonono:

I still eat all the time, but It's every 3 hours.  6-7 meals a day and lots of protein.  You can eat all the time and it be healthy, only it gets really expensive.

What is it with you smokers? The stuff makes you smell, it doesn't get you high, it costs money, it's bad for you, etc... Just stop.

I can jump on my bike and ride for miles then drop and do a bunch of pushups. If I smoked I couldn't do that. It's awesome to be healthy.

Sorry if I got preachy.

The stinky part is a big quitting factor for me. My clothes smell like an old ciggarette, my blankets on my bed reek, my car reeks, my skin is starting to look old.

I don't want to look old.

I want to be healthy inside and out.

it sounds like more of an oral fixation than anything else. just drink lots of water. it's pretty filling, and it's good for you. chewing gum might work too.

Hey, I'm just being honest.  It really bugs me to see people smoke and I get kind of pushy about it sometimes.  My dad was a heavy smoker and died when he was 46 from a stroke.  Everybody I know who has smoked for a long time looks haggard and old and they can't do anything without sounding as if their lungs are going to be coughed up.

The shit is just bad for you.   It has no redeeming quality at all.

I agree. It's a nasty habit and I appreciate your concern, but I don't think it's something I will be talked out of.

True. The only people I've seen quit were people who really really wanted to quit. If you really don't want to quit then you probably won't.

Smoking makes you look cool.

Well it sure did when I was an impressionable kid in the 80's. I actually started smoking when I was 16 because I had a serious crush on this older guy who smoked. I wanted him to think I was a totally hot babe.

So I started smoking and then I never went out with the guy. Boo-urns.
