why don't you give it a try?
it is always good to experiment and see what you can do. the double-ended casing tek is good for those who want to try to get more yield from their cakes without committing to a full-blown casing.

Theres a good chance you'll make a mess of your perlite. (who cares? okay then). Anyhow yeah I've heard of cakes that dry in the heat, only produce shrooms at the bottom. But with the top verm layer moisture shrooms were able to grow out of the top.

Nothing that amazing, I've heard better success stories with real casings.
