Re: 1/2 pint jars. widemouth vs. tapered

From what people have said in other posts, it seems that the shorter wide mouth jars seem to colonize faster. I personally think that it doesn't make too much of a difference, you just have to wait longer.

I imagine the only real difference would be the ease in getting the widemouth cakes to slide out of the jar on birthing day.

You can probably fit more the the tall jars in your pressure cooker.

With a 1/2" ramsey seal, the taller jars have more space for substrate left over than the shorter ones.

The shorter jars have more surface area so the may work better than cakes..

I'd go for tall.

Actually....they're both tapered jars (meaning, they go like this \_/ )....there are tapered widemouths and tapered regular jars. In my experience, I have used regular jars. They do not seem to colonize quicker than widemouths, and are a pain to birth. there is however, more surface area for shrooms to grow on a tall cake. It seems that with the regular jars, the bottoms almost take forever to colonize because its hard to get innoculation down that far. It's your decision, but I would go with the widemouths. BTW: the Cultivation Station sells both in many sizes.
