Pint Jars
    #1351264 - 03/05/03 02:17 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Anybody had much luck with wide mouth pint jars? My friend was thinking about just doubling the mixture of the 1/2 pint PF Tek and going from there. Would this be a bad idea?

Pints are great...... just make sure you squirt 2 cc`s of spores per pint jar instead of 1cc like half pints. Larger jars will have better luck germinating and colonize much better if you double the spore amount too. 1 cc would work but it would take a long time..... and the longer the jar takes to colonize.... the more chance of contams setting in. I use pints exclusively now )  Makes for much more spawn when you do a dozen jars ... Good luck

Awesome, thanks Numba9.  Good thing too, cuz I bought 12 pint jars and wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to use them or not

Case them in the same way as the 1/2 pints also?  I'd assume..

I think pf tek is outdated, grain is the way to go with pints, plus grain to grain transfers means 7 day colonization times. oh yeah if your jars aren't tapered your gonna have problems getting the colonized cake out.

My friend is new to growing and is currently fruiting his first 12 jars.  They're coming out nicely, but he wants to experiment more.  He knew to get the tapered jars too, but thanks

Where can I find a guide for using grain?  Interested...

some guy i know recently started about a dozen pint jars... 6 rye and 6 millet, and he said that he has had great results... where pf jars might take a couple weeks, grains could only take a couple days.. he said he would recommend doin grain jars which are probably cheaper anyways.

We're talking rye grain right? Because there is a good rye grain tek on www.mushmush.nl. It is the tek for cubensis under the "methods" section.  hope it helps.

Quart jars (2 pints) are the way to go IMO.

I had a quart jar colonize in 8 days flat with the Allen strain on microwaved millet.

ditto, but pc not microwave. my newbie friend's progression was 1/2 pint brf cakes -> 1/2 pint brf cakes cased -> wbs (mostly millet) cased. each step produced larger fruits and stronger flushes with less work.

Try Dark Rye flour in place of Brown rice flour... with the pf tek.....Jars haul ass. As fast as any grain I`ve tried. Pints are usually 100% colonized in 10 days.
