nice inexpensive bikes?

i'm cheap. i want a decent bike. i plan to get one used off of craigslist, but i don't know which brands to avoid, which brands to look for, which makes/models/etc.

It'll be used primarily in the city, so i guess i oughta get a road bike? i always thought those skinny wheels looked funny... but whatever's best. The cheaper, the better. I know a number of you cats like to ride, so could you give me the names of some decent bikes that won't break the bank (as i said, i'll be buying used)?

Don't start off with a new bike cause you're gonna drop it eventually anyway. Find something you can handle for a learner. I learned on a Ninja 250, though I don't ride now and if I did wouldn't be seen by my friends on one. Maybe even some type of old cruiser- just something with low weight. Don't buy a Harley. Take a friend that rides regularly and knows the ins and outs of bikes to ride it before you buy. Good luck tiny rabit birds.

I got a diamondback mountain bike for $250

Works perfectly although since I've bumped up how much I ride I've been thinking about investing in something a little pricier. I love biking...I do 12 miles a day to and from work.

I'm sorry, i wasn't clear, i was talking about bicycles. Although, funny enough, i'm trying to get into a safety class for motorcyles as well. But i've already got a motorcycle i'm going to ride. it's an old yamaha maxim. regardless, this thread is about bicycles, my apologies.

ps: it's tiny rabiD birds. it's been my handle for everything ever since i was a wee lad, and i thought i was clever because it's an impossibility for birds to contract rabies.

My fault- I'd go with a Giant. Fantastic bike and you can get one used for around $500. Good investment in the future. Like MOTH said, however- a Diamondback is a good bike for the price but I'd step up the pace and shoot a tiny bit higher. Cheers.

Giant eh..? I'm not sure 500 is in my budget. i was hoping more for something in the $200 and under, region.. and even $200 is pushing it. reason being, i'm just getting set up in my new place, paying all the deposits, rent, etc etc and i'm broke as a motherfucker.

diamond back seems more like my range, particularly if it's used. do they do decent road bikes as well?

anyone else have some bike names i should keep an eye out for?

i,ve seen decent commuter bikes for like 50$ on craigslist, if u live in a city look for these places

sometimes they call them bike co-op,s sometimes u can build a bike, taking a course and it ends up to be like 80$ for the course and the bike u just created
