Colonize in the light or dark...which is it??

Hey there,

I have seen some who say colonize in the light and some who say in the dark which is the natural environment for mycelium normally....which is correct or works best?

Hey there,

Dark...okay, why do you say dark? Have your tried both ways and had one do better than the other? The PF Tek original pages mention using indirect light to colonize and/or fruiting. I looked around some before I posted the question and could not get a definative answer. The mycelium is the thallus of the fungus but what effect light has on it's growth I am not sure for a fact...I will keep looking around.

Hey there,

You know, I laid a black trash bag over them for just an hour or so and the MAZ that is there seemed to take off more and start to thicken up and the others seemed to thicken up more as they are already doing pretty good ( I got two really dense syrs from PF and they inoculated the first two sets of jars easily. At least he is deliverying the full product. )....okay, thanks for the pointer to the faq and the friendly advice...the dark it is then...heheh! DOH!

Hey there,

Funny about the colonization growth...last Sunday I went to Wally looking for a few items....odds and ends. I was gone about two hours. My PF jars did not have squat on them when I left..but an hour after I got back in the afternoon they all had dime to quarter size areas of colonization. I was really surprised...
