I am interested in it, though. It is a homeless shelter in my community and I want to improve my community.

well usually those places will
take all the help they can get.

i once worked (but for the pay, it was pretty much like volunteering) at a goodwill "work training"
place for people not doing so well in life.
i taught them how to work, build & fix computers.

i wasnt prepared for what i was in for,
most of the people i was teaching were homeless,
recovering alcoholic & drug addicts, & battered spouses.
& they had ALOT of stories to tell, & alot of tears to shed.

it was hard realizing a youngster myself,
as being support for elders twice my age.

Speaking of Volunteering I'm gonna go with WOOFING (organic farms) it's pretty much worldwide but I want to start it off in Costa Rica- they accept any one as long as they don't slack off and like sweating off their hands. Nothing to do with race or religion. Basically for everyone who likes to travel and earn just to travel. I'm going to be happy and away from home for a long long time..whenever that day comes :undecided:

ive been really looking into the peace corp latley. went to a couple semminars and started my app. they dont just take anyone though. i need to get away for awhile. you should send me some more info or a link on "woofing"

That's odd. If they are interested in that kind of information, they may be the evangelistic types. I've worked at a Christian charity before, and the only mention of religion was things like signs about Jesus' "Good news to the poor," and things like that.

Well, I suppose I'll see what ends up happening. I hope they'll accept my application, since I have a good amount of time to dedicate to volunteer work.

I got the call back today and it looks like they needs my work more than they care about my lack of Christianity. I'll be starting on Thursday.

I would have been suprised if they didn't take you. My mom has worked at a number of christian shelters/soup kitchens and they really don't give a fuck. Any place that makes an issue of it is probably fringe.

They could, and some probably will. The church that I go to would welcome you with open arms, but I am a catholic and many do not consider us Catholics as being true Christians.

You answered the questions in the right way. if any church will deny you because of your honesty then they are not worthy of your Christian like actions. Hang tight and don't give up if they reject you. The right one will come along in time. It is out there waiting for you.

But do not ever compromise until you find that one place that will accept you.

Right now I'm just serving dinner on Thursday and Sunday. They want me to see how I like it and if it's working out I told them I'd be happy to fill any spots where they need help on all days other than Wednesday.

Right now I'm working only a little under 6, but it will probably 10+ in the next few weeks.
