Agar Petri Dishes

Can i use polyethylene, styrene petri dishes, or should i shoot for pyrex/glass? thanks.

They are the best ones to use.
Non-Vented, The bigger the better I say..
They come in pre-sterilized selves of 5 or 10, buy them cheaply in cases of 500.

But it is impractical to sterilize them after use
They cannot be pressure cooked, they will just melt.
Use them then throw away.

Glass ones can be re sterilized & reused over & over.
But are a lot more expensive & break often.

I bought the cheaper kind of glass dishes from Fungi perfecti in ~99
and I've been using them without breaking a single one. Unless you
juggle or something I doubt that will be a problem. I sterilize them
together with the MEA jar.
Considering how many times I have reused them I probably have saved
a few bucks :grin:, but I only occupy 24 dishes or something.

As a matter of fact, i do happen to juggle, but i stick to eggs. :cool:  Either way, what is the best agar to go with for strain isolation?

potato dextrose sounds like a fancy term for potato sugar products, similar to byproducts from vodka. Can this be made economically? I realize it's cheap, but i am a DIY kinda guy.
