Reducing humidity with perlite

I'm getting a little bit too much humidity with my perlite setup. I'm seeing some fuzz growing up the base of my mushrooms. They are also very water laden (weight decreases more than 10x after drying).

I have about 1 inch of perlite without any standing water...just wet perlite. The container is sealed well, and the removable top (for airing out and letting light in) has weather stripping around it so it seals well.

Should I add some water so that less perlite is exposed or remove some perlite or something else? I'm tempted to leave the top open a crack, but I'm worried that might invite contamination.

Or, should I just leave them as they are.

You should NEVER have a sealed up terrarium, no matter what you've read elsewhere. A sealed terrarium is the major cause of contamination for new growers. It's also impossible to have too much humidity. You want to shoot for 99%. If your cakes are waterlogged, perhaps it's because you have them sitting directly on the perlite instead of on foil or jar lids to keep them separate from the perlite.

Fuzz around the base is perfectly normal, and not a problem.

I'd suggest you drill holes all over the terrarium as you see in the picture below, and then use three to five inches of well drained perlite. Even with all those holes, you should fan a time or two per day. The thing to remember is that sterility is the key to preventing contamination in jars of grain or brf, but air exchange is the key in fruiting chambers.

Dear Roger,
Is it necessary to mist my FC when it is built to your specifications? I have been misting myself, about5-6 times a day, despite having 45 inches of well soaked+drained perlite.

Okay...I un-sealed it. I drilled a bunch of hole (not as many as in the picture). I do have them on foil, but maybe I was over reacting to the fuzz on the cakes and the bases or the mushrooms.

Yeh don't worry about that white fuzz. I had a very successful first grow, big thanks to RR for helping me a ton, and I had the same question. Its normal
