humidity and air exchange
    #522123 - 01/16/02 08:41 AM (16 years, 8 months ago)

I have some pf cakes in a perlite bottomed terrarium. I birthed them, i'd like to say almost two weeks ago. All I'm getting is fuzzy white balls and stringy fingers reaching out but NO PINS. I have a cheap walmart hygro thingy that says the humidiy is 100 percent. The thermometer reads about 70 degrees. They get natural non-direct daylight. I fan about four times a day and there's condensation on the inside of the terrarium.
MY question is, is the humidity too high and should I be fanning. I read somewhere that they don't need air exchange until the pinning starts.
Mother of god I need pins.

I don't do cakes...but I think 100% humidity is fine for them... just keep fanning and be patient...pins will come

100% IS too much. No pinning and continued micelial growth is a sign of too high humidity anyway!

I'd try reducing the perlite surface. For example push it down so it's reduced in clumpyness.

100% humidity is what you want for pin formation.
73 degrees is optimal for the heat.
Sounds like you have good growth.
You probably need a light on them to start the pinning.
Try putting them into more light for a few hours a day.
Patience my friend.....Patience.
