Yeah, I have to drive 30 miles to work 3 days a week, and 20 miles to school.

My job requires me to drive anyways, we have over 20 different sites spread out around the county.

Plus the headquarters is in a tweaker town, no fucking way I'm going to live there. It's just in the very center of the county, making it the best place to have the main office.

I'm one of those self-important assholes that burns the gas up real bad.  I smile at the pump and throw my McDonald's wrapper out every chance I get.  I love America.

P.S. Don't mess with Texas.  :ass: :plot: :braindamage:

I'll make sure to avoid buying gas on the 15th, though.  :flowstone:

30 miles is an 'average' ride for most road cyclists. it takes roughly 2 hours. you could bring your bike with you when you drive, then bike home and bike back the next morning, leaving your car at your site.

my point it, it's not too far. that's not a reason. but yea, some people need their car to haul stuff...most people dont. you can usually carry everything youll need on racks and panniers that fit to the bike.

Smooth as a Cadillac (not my bike, just an example):

Besides, I don't think I could even ride a bike to work, it's all freeway.

ooh,

the new long haul truckers are sweet looking.

i used to work for QBP, Surly's parent company,

and i always loved borrowing their demo bikes.

in addition to LHTs, they have like 50 other bikes to demo.

surly is cool.

It's a pretty good job, so I doubt it.

Finding part time tech jobs is pretty hard, I was offered a full time position at my college for twice the pay I'm getting now (and it would be closer,) but I wouldn't be able to go to school anymore.

once again, who the fuck wants to ride their bike 2hrs and get all sweaty/tired before they even GET to their job (which most people don't like), and then after a long hard day, who wants to ride 2hrs home?

And don't say "theres plenty of people who do it", because in the overall scheme of things, there isn't.

I've ridden my bike about 25 miles to work. It sucks, it really does. I end up leaving about an hour and 15 minutes early (I am not in shape) to go to work, ride down a highway with semi's blowing past, then when I get there I gotta stack boxes in at 5 degrees below 0, while sweaty. I wouldn't even think of doing this during the winter.

-saves a lot of money
-great for your body and your mind
-good for the environment

The biggest reason i do it is to save money. My own labor is free, so ill bike if i can. I carry (or leave at my job) a change of clothes because i ride in bib shorts and a jersey, and my work has showers. If it didnt, id find a rec or something close by and shower there before going the last few minutes to work.
It's not exhausting once you get in shape.

Youre right, in the scheme of things most people dont commute to work by bike. Also, most people are overweight, most people dont carpool, and most people complain about gas prices.

My stance is that more people should commute by bike.

You dont have to ride the same route you take by car. Often, the back roads and residential streets would be faster by bike because you dont have to worry about speed limits. You dont need to bike on the freeway. In fact, im pretty sure it's illegal to do so.

but youre obviously pretty determined to drive no matter what. have at it.

same gig at QBP,

locker room, showers, everything you need to functionally commute.

my ride was 20miles pretty much on the nuts.

in the end that's why i ended up leaving that job,

but you'd be surprised what percentage of people there commute +10miles.

heh yeah dude.

that's a pretty long commute. you'd get in some serious base-mileage training by working there. Would you agree that now that youve biked 20 miles to work, 12 doesnt seem so bad? lol :crazy2:
i feel ya.

One of the best cars I owned was a 94 geo metro. It got.. 35/40 to the gallon or so, never broke down and tires were $20 a piece.

It was slow and ugly as sin though. Not exactly a pimp ride
