"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. I don't know about U.S. Army bootcamp...but I actually loved bootcamp in Canada. (Although it was for the Navy)

i wouldnt say you shouldnt do it, but it doesnt sound like you really want to, and you have to want to. they are alot of people who dont make it through. and if you get caught with drugs, you lose your money and it stains your background check.

Oh wow Banez got discharged?

I see Loc: USA so plain and simple - don't join the army.
Joining the US Army in 2007 is like joining the German army in 1937.

Some other things to consider:

YOU WILL LOSE BASIC RIGHTS

* If you leave your work without permission, you can be arrested.
* Any disobedience can result in criminal punishment.
* You can be punished without the right to see a lawyer or have a trial.
* Your right to say what you think when and how you want will be restricted.
* Individual expression through the way you dress and wear your hair won't be tolerated.
* You will be subject to routine urine tests for drugs.

THINGS YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELF BEFORE ENLISTING:

* Are you prepared to fight in any war, any place, anytime that the government orders you to?
* Have you really considered and checked out all the job training and placement possibilities in your community?
* Is joining the military something you want to do, or are you being pressured into if by other people?
* Is this a spur of the moment decision you may regret later?
* Have you talked to any of the many veterans who didn't like the military? Why didn't they make the military a career?
* If you become unhappy after you enlist, do you know how hard it will be to get out?
* If you get a less-than-honorable discharge, do you know how hard it will be to get it changed?

Don't do it bro, not without one hell of a good reason.

You do what's best for you. I am very biased against the army, and the message it sends out young men and women that it's a better alternative to anything in their lives. It seems like a con. We will help make your life shitty, but then give you a slightly less shitty alternative to make up for it.

YOU are in control of your life. YOU can put that effort that you would in boot camp to straighten yourself up and find something that makes you happy.

...and then not be committed to an organization that may end up getting you killed for no good reason.

Banez got discharged because of an injury, for those of you who don't know, he didn't get the boot for fucking up.

To the OP, someone else said it already, it doesn't sound like you want to do it. I am unlike most of the people here, I don't see joining the army as such a terrible choice. My brother did it, just got back from Iraq last week after a year and a half-ish. He claims to have done less work there than he did while he was home, so it all depends on what you do. He was civil affairs, so he never even had to leave the base. I also have friends who are in other branches of the military.

People who say that enlisting in the army is like signing a death warrant are wrong. Unless you're infantry, that's definitely riskier. I'm not gonna say joining the army is risk free, but I think some people think there's more risk than there really is. Personally, if I were to join the military, it wouldn't be the army. No reason not to join the Navy where, at least to my understanding, the risk is way less.

Not to get too political, but supporting a bullshit quagmire clusterfuck that we never should have gotten into in the first place will not be all that fulfilling.

If you need help on finding a way to make your life feel more focused, I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that will help you figure something out. Our low self esteem is why our government treats us the way it does. They feel they can provide our lives with meaning and purpose, and in return we owe them everything, even our lives. You are the only one who can do give your life meaning. Once the army is done with your services, they'll throw you back into society... but this time, you'll have PTSD to deal with too.

I support our troops. Really I do I think they are for the most part amazingly courageous human beings. I've had both good friends and family members over there. I also see them when they come back, and I don't see that their lives have approved much at all. The ones who were unemployed videogame slackers may come back in better physical shape, but for the most part are more depressed, and are still unemployed videogame slackers. One of my friends is now in captain's training. She's the only one I know who is still Pro War. The rest have no clue why they just spent several years of their lives doing what they were doing, and they're now more confused and disillusioned with the world than ever.

To be in the military is like being in prison where they give you 4 weeks a year of freedom.

Regardless of whether you go to Iraq or not, you are still a prisoner.

This coming from someone who spent 4 long arduous years in the Marine Corps during peace time.

Don't do it, I'd rather clean toilets for a living than be in the military.

Job training??

Shit, all I learned was how to clean rifles, cut grass, paint walls, march, put up with a shitload of idiots, etc.

Bah, cleaning toilets earns more $$ and is far less bullshit.

That is not even considering the prospect of being involved in a mindless war.

I'm working my way through a book of guitar scales, and riffs, all of which are different styles. Blues, Jazz, Celtic etc ...

I'm writing music. A book. Lots of Poetry.(carry a notepad)  I'm trying to start 2 small businesses. (trying) I'm working out, painting, trying to get a charity project going. Working on a zine, and helping friends make theirs.

And I'm going back to school/working shitty temp jobs.

There are plenty of things besides the army that can give your meaning and purpose. And while some may need to do many things, others will be fine with just a few core ideas.

I've found what works for me.

Good Luck.

Yeah, but you live in Canada so, it doesn't really count.  You just are afraid that we're going to drop the bomb on you guys, so you want to discourage him from joining up.

We see right past you're funny accents and silly hats.  We know what you're up to, Canada.  :pirate:
