Code BootCamp
    #22659710 - 12/15/15 08:30 PM (6 years, 1 month ago)

So I applied for a coding bootcamp and got in..its 12 weeks of 50-60 hours a week of learning how to develop apps, and they say after completion of the course a job in software development is nearly guaranteed.

I don't really want to learn to code to get a job but to start my own company..

anways, I got accepted..and tuition is free until I get a job/start making an income from software development..but I still have to move quite a ways and invest $$ in room and board while I do this.

I guess my question is, is it worth it?
anyone here done anything similiar?

I'm already in a program to learn how to code, but its a two-year program and I still have a year left.

This seems much more up my alley.

How much do you have to pay when you get a job?

IMO I would take this bootcamp and supplement with a 2 year program

I would say starting salary for you is easily 90-150k range starting. Depends on the area, city, and if you have some level of reccomendations/previous projects and skill

And IMO its definately worth it. I would try and set yourself apart from the other dorks being churned out of the bootcamps by develop a unique skill set and interests within the field

18% deducted from first years salary.

something like 95% of graduates get a job making around 80-100k a year..

so that could be nearly twenty grand.

If I start my own business and succeed in that, 18% of income could be HUGE.

maybe this isn't the best idea..but sure does seem like the quickest way to get where I want to be.

I like this idea..but I think if I decide to do this, I'm going to have to put my school on hold as it seems like its pretty demanding, time and work-wise.

but supplementing that bootcamp with my current education would I think definitely make me a very marketable programmer..as by the end of it all I would be proficient in at-least three languages and would have a decent portfolio of work.

I think I'm going to go for it

I'll be moving to SF in march for 12 weeks of hard-core coding  x)

I just learned the basics of java and object oriented programming in general by taking an introductory programming class at my university.

I've recently been looking into C++ as I need to know the basics of that language for my class next semester (its basically C++ II, like a mid-level programming class) and so far, I think after I finish writing this little practice program I'm writing to teach myself C++ I will be where I am at, knowledge-wise, in java currently and I can probably finish it within a few hours.

They all seem pretty similar, just use different syntax and somewhat different methods for different things.

The bootcamp will be focusing on Ruby it seems, so I'm now brushing up on that..will return to C++ after because atm Ruby is just more fun.
