curvy mushrooms...
    #6861947 -

hello everyone..I have a problem with my mushrooms, they are all growing and maturing at a very small size..maybe 1.5 inches. There are lots and lots of them so overall yield is not affected really, especially as there is always a couple nice normal ones...why would this be? have never had this problem before so not a clue!
also some are growing in almost a complete circle, they grow nice and straight until suddenly they curve round so the head touches the base, like a U, whats that all about?
Does anyone know whats going on here as like i say, never had this problem before!

Give them more overhead light. As far as small mushrooms go, if you want bigger mushrooms, they need more and better nutrients, and water.

they have quite a bit of light. like i say its weird....never happened before now. will try more though.
the nutrients should be fine too, they grow on grain. but i had an accident and dropped this tray just before fruiting, some of the casing moved a bit. could the fruit be too far away from the nutrient source? didnt think that mattered much?

Size also depends on the overall size of the mycelium network. Next time spawn your grain to 40 pounds of horse manure in a large rubbermaid, you will get good size mushrooms.

hmmm.....might not work in a small room in scotland that one. but manure may be a good idea if you think it work better than grain on a small scale.

Aged and leeched horse manure does not smell bad at all. It actually smells pleasent imo. Now if you have allot of wheat straw mixed in with it, then it smells very foul. Dont worry about the small room thing. A tub with horse manure in it will take up the same amount of space as a tub with cakes or grain casings in it.

Mushies require water a lot more than nutes.

so no matter how musch water i give them, things will be good?
im not moaning, they trip as expected, blew my girlfriend away onto another planet. bit mild for me but think this whole cube strain a bit lame anyway. so should i worry about shrooms i could wear as a ring?

Increase air exchange. High CO2 levels cause stem elongation and small caps.

Just throwing idea around here. I am by no means an expert.

My guess would be that, for some reason, the stems aren't strong enough to support the caps. Or maybe you're growing in a white fruiting chamber and the light is bouncing all over the place and confusing the shroom as to which way is up? Really can't think of another theory other than genetics or something.

thought genetics so ive picked the straightest to clone, but CO2 might be right, not been changing the air as often as i could....caps are very small, but stems also small and thick, but circular like a ring, pics will be up tomorrow...well later today if i get round to it...
