san pedro... extraction didn't turn out quite right

i've been browsin' around on the shroomery for a while now.. reading trip reports and lurking in the forums. i've never posted, but i have a question about this san pedro i just tried to extract mescaline cactus juice from using mjshroomers guide.

i removed all the barbs and the outer skin before i chopped it all up and threw it in the blender. that's the only variation i made to his guide (guess i shouldn't have made any).. anyways, i boiled it for a while at low temps and it wasn't looking anything like the pictures mjshroomer had... it never foamed up at all and never really looked like the same color.. after about 2 hours or so all the water was boiled out and it looked like split pea soup.. not at all like the goo/snot looking stuff in his pics.

i strained all of that stuff through a t-shirt and it left me with about 5oz of this dark yellow/green liquid.

think it'll work or did i mess it up so bad that i need to start over? thanks..

Well, there's only one way to know for sure. Slam that stuff. It's probably gonna taste horrible but if it's only 5 oz. it shouldn't be too hard to get it down.

If you're boiling it down to make tea then, yeah, you probably could have just thrown the skin and spines into the blender too. You just want to make sure you discard the core. You won't have to worry about getting pricked by the spines or anything like that when you strain it because the boiling is gonna soften them up anyway.

Normally, when I've made tea, it starts to look like olive colored oatmeal after most of the water is boiled off. Your 5 oz. should do something for you but don't be too hard on yourself if it lacks some potency. You'll get better at preparing it with time.

It can vary. Towards the end it starts looking less like snot, as all the foam has broken down. It really just looks like muddy water.

The end product shouldn't be thick at all unless you've really reduced it to hell. 5oz sounds like it's reduced pretty far, but it all depends on the amount of material.

Yeah, give it a go. If it does not work too well, consider what was said about the skin. A very high concentration of alkaloids is right under the skin. Just blend it all. If you strain it really well after a simmer, you can get the goodies without eating the skin. I also found that cheesecloth works a bit better than a shirt for straining.

Another thing to consider is potency of the individual cactus. They are all different...

When I did this, I actually boiled the stuff in some pantyhose. Boiled it for 5 hours myself. Huge pot.

Mine ended up not being that slimy, but it was a nice green colored drink. Took nerve to get it all down, but my buddy and I did.

Didn't work too great(didn't take enough) - but we started giggling and it felt like I was on a very low dose of shrooms mixed with some alcohol.

By the way - what you did was not an extraction. An extraction would require polar/non-polar liquids and evaporation and a lot more time.

All you did was make a drink of the cactus that puts into a physcial form that's managable to intake. Technically, you'd get the same by just eating that green layer under the skin.

i drank the juice about two hours ago. nasty stuff. i haven't felt much of anything. guess it didn't work after all. i'm leaving the skin and barbs on next time.. i'll see if i can find some cheesecloth too, but i'm not so sure where to look.

i can afford to fuck up one more time before i run out of cactus.

i went to ralph's and target and i didn't see any cheesecloth.. i did pick up some microfiber cleaning cloths though. how do you think it'll work?

Those should work as long as they're fairly porous and not treated with anything.

Target really should have cheesecloth though. Did you try asking somebody?
