Living in a Cage...
    #6825917 -

We all live in cages; these cages are formed by our beliefs, habits, addictions and self-imposed limitations. I have seen this cage almost as a logical construct which people unconsciously attatch to themselves as a story. This story is the story of your personality. At the same time though, there is a collective cage because there is a vested interest in maintaining some kind of concencus reality

In order to maintain a concencus reality, the masses control themselves through fear and conformity

Thoughts? What are your strategies for breaking out of the cage? Are you like me, walking alongside the cage hitting the bars with a banana as if you thought the banana was strong enough to break steel?

I have heard people on this forum call themselves meta-programmers; what is the art of meta-programming all about?

Nice post.

I fully realize what you are referring to, but I'm not sure that I would personally liken it to be as "living in a cage". These aspects that have brought us to this present moment, our beliefs, habits and routines, past experience and mental understanding, have simply resulted from us being in one position, interacting with the rest of our environment, and subsequently changing as a result. This process is carried out instananeously, continuously. It isn't a cage that is confining us, but simply past circumstances that have brought us to this present circumstance.

To rephrase your question regarding "breaking out of the cage", I would state that the biggest step we can take to exercise more conscious "control" over ourselves is to simply become more aware, to open ones eyes, so to speak, and observe reality for what it is, and then to apply that understanding in deciding how to interact with reality.

Its the progression from more or less being a bundle of cause and effect to being a conscious entity that is fully aware of one's circumstances and chooses the most effective action or state with which and from which to consciously create oneself and reality.

The path is to become a creator.

This is a rather tangential reply but..

I'm beginning to see the value in avoiding labels. Personality labels, religious labels, political labels, fashion labels..or at least to attributing any real importance to them.

I think that we discredit ourselves and others through the process of labeling. Even in allowing another persons label to have an effect on us is ridiculous.

That's not to say you can't dislike a "quality" of a person or of the self - but to not make that assessment based on something as shallow as a label.

For a while I tried to figure out what my character was by examining labels it might receive. I got nowhere doing that, and I've surely got some un-muddling ahead of me thanks to it. Fear & conformity.

And if it helps paint the picture, my college isn't too far of a departure from your above average highschool, and I'm just as much of an outcast now I as I twer then.

I think I've just upgraded to a tin banana with a slot for change.

This thread brings up another subject in my mind. And it is in questioning if you can compare yourself with someone else and make a assumption or label. For me, my logic says i cannot for i consider myself a spirit, a conciousness that desires in basic nature to create.
When it comes to labels and social identities, i would be comparing that part of me which i have no control over, the parts of me that i had no choice in choosing, my physical and mental characteritics.
Ie/ In saying that i am a good soccer player, i am refering to my physical and mental abilities in comparison to someone elses. This statement, i believe, does nothing for me because it does not refer to the part of me that i have choice in being, merly the parts i am forced to live with.
Thinking about it from another point of view...If you 'just' that IN comparing oneself to another, you compare the parts of yourself to which you had no choice in living with,(facial characteritics) and view that without free choice a being is not being itself, comparing any part of itself to anothers, would not be logical, considering that the being has 'chosen' our of free choice, to compare that which it has no choice in.(ie/being born with red hair) with anothers, and coming to a conclusion about the value of it, through the comparison. This process generates the label that we attach to ourselves, the cage that we create.
But yeah, creating yourself anew is challenging. But what is life without a challenge!!!?

The mind is a creative tool. It searches to protect you, through message sensations(feelings). It is no different than a computer, you need to make sure its anti-virus program is in check and that it doesnt have a script that limits your experience, because of to much precaution.

And remember the computer does not appear to respond to words of anger and frustration - just give it input, in the form of new meanings that you know to be true and its messages to you and the limits it lays out for you, will change.

Guilt is an outcome of believing you are the cause of the problems.

Yet, we are not a cause to something, we see is negative or bad - Unless you believe your intentions are directed towards a bad outcome....

I agree to an extent - we each create our own reality, but are conditioned into participation and perpetuation of the concensus reality, beliefs, etc. It's tough to fully break away from. What I see as the greatest obstacle is that nobody really knows that the consensus reality can change - there's a strong attitude, even among places such as this, that this is just the way it is.

Yes, this is sadly unfortunate. People don't care to do much original thinking about life or what's actually going on, much less care to take a firm stand on what they believe. Plus we have a system of governance that has a life of its own which is for all pracitcal purposes impossible to change in any radical way. It's almost like a fundamental law of nature; energy always takes the path of least resistance. In the age of economics people are entirely motivated by incentives. There is no incentive (that people are aware of) to do anything different: we assume that this is the best life has to offer us, it works pretty good for the people on top, and they have all the money and therefore influence. Alienating one's self from the herd takes balls.

Seek to enlighten yourself and others, to know the deeper truth of yourself that lurks behind the ego, and to know what truly is possible. Seek to understand why there is nothing to be afraid of. Demonstrate your knowledge. Live as if you are not encaged, and this will be your reality (until you cops come anyway).

All it takes is a little mind over matter you could say to break free from your cage. You are struggling to free yourself when all you need is to find yourself and change things are you. Like look for things to be positive and optimistic about. Those little things... friends, family and be happy to be alive and experience this realm full of heart.

Peace,
Droz
