gloveboxes
    #6802761 -

hie, i just watched the "Growing Mushroom MAde Easy" video and it cleared alot of the haze.

though i was wondering, how many people use glove boxes during inoculations or during transfer?

if you do isit necesary? can i just strelize my bathroom and do it really quickly?

if not could some one give me a diagram and methods to build something like a glove box or something, i have absolutly no money to spend. and hence i need to cut alot of costs.

thank you for your time.

A glovebox can only increase success rates if used properly. The first glove box I made was a ghetto box for inoculations. You can make them REALLY CHEAP or even free.

All you need is a cardboard box with holes cut in it and a see through top. Work in a clean room with still air. Practice a few dry runs in your box first so you get the feel for it. Good luck.

Although the rate of uncontaminated jars is lower when you use a glove box it's not actually necessary.
When it comes to agar work or transfers, I'd totally recommend a glovebox (a real one, not a "ghetto-box" (I love that name  )).
But you have to invest a small amount of money for building one that works properly. I'd say cheapest is about 20$.

If you keep unsheathed needles wrapped in an semi-saturated alc soaked paper towel or gauze pad at all times. You can get by doing counter-top inoculations. Takes practice, but is not difficult.
