Finding canning jars in the UK... a nightmare!

Hello i'm looking for some help on finding canning jars in the UK..
Does anyone have any sources here?
It's a total nightmare.
I have been using jam jars with the glass tops and the metal clamp shutter thing. They just don't work very well, most likely due to the lack of air getting to them even without the rubber seal attachment.

Ideally a decent quality bag sealer and some self healing injector bags are the way to but, i just can't afford a bag sealer!

You can use jelly jars that are tapered. I have heard of brits doing this. You aren't looking for a seal anyhow.

for the pf tek yoiu can use drinking glasses with foil lids., there is a tek that shows how to do this. Also tesco sells jam that have wide mouth jars, there bigger than half pint, so not ideal but work.

Also if yoiur working with grain you dont need wide mouth jars.

gas exchanged is taken care of with the holes + filter you use in the lids, nothing to do with the rubber seal. but this does help keep contams out.

Personaly i have had great success using just half pint drinking flasses with foil lids and a verm layer. the trick which is the same with canning jars is to clean the inside lip of the jar of food (just like the pf tek states as any food/moisture will just allow contams to grow down the sides of the jar past the verm layer)


Also its possible to use plastic tubs which you can get in many shapes and sizes. you can get half pint sized plastic tubs which as long as they are the right plastic will survive steam and pressure sterilisation (i cant remember the exact plastic, but it should have a number 5 inside a triangle if i remember correctly)

kool thanks, im going to buy some tesco conserve jars tomorow. but being a noob i still dont understand how to prepare the actual jars. i mean empty out the jam obviously and i guess clean out thoroughly. do i not use the lids and just use foil lids. or do i punch holes in the lid if so how?
this the only part im not to clear on???
any help much appreciated
